Need Help, I have fuel in my vapor canister

Post by tgall »

I was driving along when the car started to act like it was not getting gas. I limped home and then gas started leaking from the line to the vapor canister. I removed the canister and when it is tipped over gas poured out. If anyone can give me an idea of how to diagnose this problem I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks %)

year of car?

The 94+ is under the coolant tank unless your referring to the vac canister... If so then maybe the pressure regulator is bad and can be sucking fuel in the vac system.

It is a 1988. I talked with a local mechanic and he suggested plugging the vacuum line from the engine with a golf tee to see if this helped. Sure enough it did. My daughter uses the car to get back and forth to school, she says she did not overfill the gas tank which I believe because to get her to put gas in the car is a challenge in itself, let alone more then $10.00 at a time. Does anyone know if there are other ways that fuel may find it's way into the vapor canister. Thanks for the help.

Quite possibly a bad purge valve all together... If that's stuck open and the tank is overfull then yes I guess it could suck some up.

Thanks for the help. I will try a new purge valve and see if that clears up the problem. I will let you know what my findings are.
