I don't want to do an upgrade just yet,I have found a local bone yard to me that said he can find me a used 3100 for 100 or so,just to give him a month or 2 to locate a good one.

Do you all think the 3100 I have with 99,975 miles on is worth new lifters. Will I need to replace the LIMG again, when I did mine there was no upgraded gasket at the time, and I know that plastic gasket will just fail again, some days I just hate GM.for cutting corners.

I could be wrong but it sounds like something on you end. Bnet auto resizes big photos.
Dude if your going to get another 3100 try to get a 2000. The intakes are bigger(just the same as a 3400, but they say 3100). That will give you more top end and the engine needs it. I have 3400 intakes on my 3100, I always thought it needed bigger ports and I was right(with thanks to those here that helped on that). Sure wish I would have had the money for a 2000 or up engine. Don't get a 99 anything by the way. The upper doesn't flow well do to a wall that was cast behind the EGR port.
Oh and I think that the 2000 stuff had better intake gaskets from GM.

If you ever need them get the Fel Pro.

Hang in there man! All the hard stuff will be over soon and you will be able to post all you want. What are you using to try and upload? Photobucket works the best and it's free. There is a write up on how to use it here. If you have trouble I can help.

Don't even think about a 3800. Way too much trouble to put it in. It has been done though.
If the car has set for four years give it time to pump up. That is a long time to sit. Yes you would have to change out the lifters if they will not pump up. No need to have the covers off by the way. It will stop making noise or it won't. How long did you let it run?
Sorry I missed a post back there!

The last time it ran (drove) was in may of this year for 15 minutes to get out of my aunt's backyard and drive up a tow dolly,it did that after sitting 4 years 2 gal. of gas and good battery, started up,not right up,there was some cranking involved.dumped a little gas in the butterfly and she started right up. 4 years prior to sitting i drove it 6 miles to my aunt's backyard,It was knocking but ran 55 MPH.

Relocated fom Pa. to Tenn.in 2006,just got the car towed down here in may,It sits in my driveway as i type.

I need to do a compression test so i know if i need to pull the oil pan or pull the motor,Are these 3100's worth new rod bearings? I keep hearing no.Crank will be egg shaped and will just spit out the new bearings with-in 2 minutes.

My rockers are all dry should I pour some oil over them?maybe between the lifters and the oil pump it just can't prime it that high after sitting that long.does it need to prime?

i do alot of maintenance on alot of vehicles but never did get inside of motors that much.I guess it is time to tear into this one and get to the problem

the image size would have to be over 2gb to give a fatal error from that, the forums work on all current browsers. If it throws an error again let me know EXACTLY what it says

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 1000 bytes) in /home/bnet/public_html/forum/includes/functions_posting.php on line 720

That's what I get when I try to add any pic from the BROWSE button, says uploading then takes me to this error page.

I have also noticed when I am loggged in and post(click submit) It takes me to the login page and I have to CUT and PASTE my reply then log out and log in again in order for it to show.

Just because I'm a geek... Is that pic you tried to upload saying it was over 33MB? Or was that the site trying over and over till it crashed Diedemus?

Here is an idea. Go to either imageshack.com or photobucket.com. Setup an account, then you can upload pics onto their site. Then you will have a URL (web address) to the picture, so that you can put it on the forum. And that is accomplished by putting the URL to the picture (http://address to your picture/picture.jpg - as an example) with

Code: Select all

. You can also do this with the shortcut above, by highlighting the URL and clicking the image button in the full editor. I never use the full editor much, I just type the code manually in most of my posts. Plus I have my own website, so I use that to host my pics directly, rather than the sites above. There is an online help on here that can also give you some pointers, as well as help on the two sites I mentioned above.

Good luck!

That was the posting script saying that the upload cache was at 33mb and was failing after 1k, which is incorrect as the server purges the cache once the file is uploaded, and if the upload fails. I double checked this on server side.
