Unless you live in the area avoid this car
Unless you live in the area avoid this car
Hey, I thought I would warn you guys about a '94 Z26 on Auto Trader with a Quad. Prettty rare car, so I contacted the dealership and got the scoop and was assured the car would make a 4hr drive back to my house. Well the car would not be safe to drive 20 miles. The salesman told me they have been getting alot of hits on this particular car so I figured I would post on here to let you all know to avoid it unless you live in the area. At one time this car was well taken car of but I would assume a high school kid got his hands on it as the front sway bar is bent as well as the links are bad, all motor mounts are shot, struts bad all the way around, both front hub and bearings are bad
The salesman lied about everything on the car and assured me 4 times it would be no problem for the car to travel 4 hours. I will post a link to the car. Just thought I would give a heads up.

This looks like the same car 2.2H8TA was looking at and they said they sold it.

And that is why I will never buy from a salesman. Unfortunatly he probably didn't care, because his job is to sell cars. Those guys can turn a dreamcast into a ps3 over the phone

Ok so Maybe I do. Did you look over the car in person? Are you the person in Ohio that I was told put a deposit on the car? I found out today the car was still at the dealer, I have family who live like 5 mi. away from it. I walked away kinda myself, cause of the engine problems. If you click the provided link, and look at the posts about it you'll find out what I mean. I was not aware of some of the problems you pointed out though. It's a real shame, because the body, rust wise seemed very nice to me, and I did have it up in the air. The fact that the salesman told you it would make it 4 hours away blows my mind quite honestly, I had extensive conversations with a salsman named Dave, at the dealership, and expressed my concerns about just making it the 160 miles on the highway back home. I was only concerned about the rear shocks, and the exaust system falling off on the way home really. I was also a bit worried I may cause more damage to the engine, as the timing chain is bad. I origanlly thought the mounts were bad, but after asking around, it seemed like it was the timing chain, and cover that were responsable for the rattle at low rpms, and on downshifts, but if you know otherwise, thank you. I honestly thought I was done with this car, but clearly thats not the case, I'm not a fan of the people at that dealer, but I am a fan of these cars, so it continues.

I think shocks, bearings and stuff like that is just normal wear items that need to be replaced once in a while.. On every single car out there. Clearly previous owner has been neglecting this poor car for a while.
So if this car has good body and interior, that is the thing what counts on cars this old, there aren't that many clean Berettas out there anymore.
If the price is right, It's a good find... assuming the buyer is not mechanically challenged to do the maintenance work required.

I would buy it for what it has good on it....body and interior. Those are the parts that i find hard to replace. I would probably scrap wheel bearings, control arms, FE3 bar, struts and shocks. Most important part is to find a body that is original and nice and no weird problems. I have bought worse. What I like about the deal is the chance to throw the stuff you mentioned into the deal to get the price knocked down for things I would replace on a 145k mile Beretta.
Re: Unless you live in the area avoid this car
Yes, I am the guy from Ohio. The salesman was Dave. I know the issues the car has are stuff that is not a big fix but when you are blatantly told the car would make a 4 hour drive and you make that drive it was a bad experience. If I lived in the area I would have gave them 1200 tops for it as the jambs are good, the interior is bad to fair and the car needs a complete paint job. I am a body shop manager and I have owned over 30 Beretta's so I know what to look for.
The car also has a bad head gasket, oil is milky. I did end up ok in the end. I found a really nice 96 Base model that is mint minus the gas door hinge. If you live in that vicinity and can get it for the right price it is well worth restoring.

Milky oil does not mean a bad headgasket... with these cars its ALWAYS the LIMG.

So true but this car has a definite head gasket issue. As well as the chain....If I lived closer I would have game them 1200 tops and brought it home and restored it completely. Still mad as I was assured that it would make a 4 hour drive...yeah right.
I wish I would have registered on here before I made the drive. Atleast I found the base '96. Made a really bad day a bit better.

Just out of curiosity, where did all these cars go?96base wrote:d I have owned over 30 Beretta's.

I'm tempted to call and offer them like $800, in my opinion, between the shape it's in mechanicly, and the dickin' around they have run us both through, thats the most I'd pay. I'd have to get it towed up here. I think the power of the beretta fan, may have overwhelmed the people at the dealer by now, so I'll see, and let everyone know what happens.
