speaking of scrap yards.....if they have a junker will they let you pick it clean for one price or do they charge through the nose for each piece?

I just noticed in the one pic you can see the gauge cluster, and it actually has a FULL cluster! Just pointing that out.

depends on the yard.. theres a few close to me and they charge crazy prices might as well buy new parts lol, i found a place less then 40 minutes away that is a scrap yard not wrecking yard, simply buys scrap cars and crushes them, but people go and pick parts off and they guy dont really care about what part it is, charges by aprox amount he would get for weight...themadness wrote:speaking of scrap yards.....if they have a junker will they let you pick it clean for one price or do they charge through the nose for each piece?
I can get fenders/doors/hoods ect.. body parts $15.00 each no matter if its from a geo metro or a Bmw. not that theres any bmw's there lol...
I found a 94 z26 there last fall, i stripped the car..
hood/trunk/ front and rear bumpers/ all the seats/ interior plastics/ everything behind the front bumper to the rad support. engine cradle/frame. and ECM.. plus a bunch of small stuff. got everything for $140 bucks i had to make 2 trips to get everything home. i sold the ecm and engine frame for $80.. so i got basically an entire Z kit plus interior for $60.
So depends on where you go and what the yards around you are like. i could go to this place and fill my trunk with anything and everything that could fit in there and pay $60 bucks tops.

Re: i might have found me a ride!! got questions!!!!
picked up a quote from the scrap yard:
hood
door handle bezels
window reveal moldings
dash
tail light filler panel
$300 give or take
not sure about the dash yet as it is grey and my interior is wine. i need to get a hood latch cable and replace some of the weather stripping as well. all the seats were in bad shape. i had my 4 year old with me so a good once over was impossible
. he tried to roll off with the golf cart!! next time i go i will probably have an accurate list of everything i need. i'm gonna call a couple other places too. i dont think we have a crusher yard here; just used parts salvage yards.
i made this post in another thread when i should have put it here i guess.

300 dollars? Feck, I just got fenders, decklid and spoiler, front Z04 bumper, air damn, hood, foglights and harness for 160 dollars. Basically every removable panel from the car besides the doors as they were dented.
Depends on the yard for sure but that guy sounds expensive.

$300 is crazy lol, $30.00 sounds better....
I only paid 400 for my 88 and its rust free western canada car
$500 for my 96 Z i just got recently and its rust free and only missing a heater control knob and ash tray lol, cert and pollution tested the same week no problems.
I couldnt see spending 300 for some little parts, they should sell you the whole car for that lol

that car i stripped last fall. i took every part that was left on it basically, except the doors since i have a good pair for spares already, the side skirts and dew strips and filler panel was gone.. i got head lights tail lights all the panels bumpers trunk hood ect. plus many more parts for 140

$140 for all that.. plus sway bar and engine frame and ecm plus some other stuff lol
The hood is flawless, not even a stone chip in it, the picture doesnt do justice for it, the trunk lid has paint issues but is straight and rust free.

Re: i might have found me a ride!! got questions!!!!
did you guys get to pull the parts yourself or did they do it for you?
Re: i might have found me a ride!! got questions!!!!
pulled myself.... went back a 2nd day to get the rest.
dont just jump to the first place, shop around, wait it out, something will show up...
there was this car forsale i was going to buy but had just purchased my z26 like 2 days before i found this. guy got it in a storage locker and had to buy the entire contents and he wanted something else in there not the car, would have sold it for $300 bucks. GTZ

i want to pull the parts myself if for nothing else but to learn to make the swap easier. the 17 year old guy that gave me the estimate got "assistance" from his manager. who promptly added a 50 dollar labor fee for pulling the parts. i may ask if i can pull them my self. i will call some other nearby places first though.
