NO HIGHBEAM LIGHTS/1990

Post by indyyellow »

I have no high beams on the 1990 Indy the son has. The light for it even in the speedo cluster does not come on when you pull back on the lever for them.
Any idea's?

Adjust the switch on the column, its a white switch screwed to the column up under the dash connected with a metal rod to the blinker handle and it will slide further away and stop working over time. If you adjust it and slide it forward it should start working again.

you say frwrd, towards the steering wheel?
How do the brights work on these. Pull back on blinker stack for quick flash? But I can not push frwrd to turn them on. I assume that is how they should work. There is not frwrd push motion at all.

These are not forward push they are pull back to click on pull again to click off. Your switch is too far away to lock in the on position or it is bad. The switch is closer to the firewall than the wheel.

So I need to pull the panels under the dash, steering wheel to see this white thing?

Got to assume the swtich is diff from 1990 to any years after that. Seems NOTHING is the same from 1990 to the years after that. Simple ash tray, DIFFERENT, LIGHTER is DIFFERENT.

Yeah either your switch needs adjusted or replaced. I dont think they changed that switch at all during the years bc my 95 with 96 wiring has the same switch pictured. i went through like 3 turn sig stalks b4 i adjusted mine then like 3-4 years later which was a few months ago it went out of adjustment and i broke it again. bought a new switch and dug into my spare parts bins for my extra stalk. now i only have one extra stalk left haha

To get to the switch you need to drop the panel right under the steering wheel. Its a knee guard so if you get in a wreck your knees dont go into the firewall. then drop you steering column which is only held in with 4 bolts. the switch is on top of the steering column. its finicky to get it adjusted right. I recommend testing it out before you put everything back together. Good luck!

well I was into the interior today on the drivers side for a leak. So I pulled the steering down and fixed the bright lights. You all were right. Loosened the switch, moved up the whole unit towards the steeringwheel and now it is working just fine. Thanks folks.
