Quad 4 - Valves making noise
Quad 4 - Valves making noise
As you might already know, I replaced the Quad 4 in my GTZ about 2 weeks ago. The new engine is a used one with 60000 Kilometers. Meanwhile it runs great, idles nicely and runs very smooth. One problem occurs though from time to time. The valves start ticking after I rev up the engine. That ticking sound disappears and comes back again. I`m running on 10W40 oil, could that be the problem. A Quad 4 with such low mileage shouldn`t have valve problems already.
Also my catalytic converter rattles quite a bit. I know that my other two GTZ`s had that same rattle, messes up the nice exhaust note a bit.

I would guess it's lifters are collapsing or getting air in them.

I'm not sure if the oil is a problem (probably not) but there is really no reason for running over 5W-30 if it is not over 80 degrees all the time. The manual will say 5W-30 at all temps. I have run from 20W-50 to 5W-30 with the turbo with no issues. My oil temp can get pretty dang high too.
