Too bad I dont have a crazy story about how I was running down this camaro at the track and it blew. Instead I started my car to go to school, ran for a few seconds, then gernaded.

Well, 2 and a half months later it is running again(kinda).

Picked up another 240 dollar motor. Put comp springs in it, spec stage 3 clutch, and a few other small things. Also filled the tranny mounts with 94a so im all poly now.

Put the motor in, and tonight finished it up.

Started it up and.....

Insane knocking/pounding noises! Sounded like there was a screw in the engine.

Then I noticed that my cts and iat were unplugged somehow. When MS gets no signal, it says its -40*c outside. So it was enrichening a already wayy to rich mixture. (Old injectors were like 22, these are like 30)

Plugged them in and fired it up again, and runs perfect.

So, either it was so rich that it was close to hydro'ing, or its a bum motor with a bad rod bearing and letting it run oiled up the bearing a little to kill the noise.

We will see tomorrow I guess. Need tranny fluid and need to put the axles back in.

I think it will be okay.

Has a 60 day warrenty I think.

Since I brought the afr up to ~13 it runs good now. When it made the noise the afr was pinned below 8 so that was the issue.

Ac clutch is sounding bad though... I hope it's just rusty

Took it for a quick spin today.

Runs nice! Shifter needs some grinding, cant get second with modded shift cable.
Broke a wire on the tps sensor and now it wont start but that is okay. I have a exam to study for anyway.

Spec stage 3 has the lightest pedal ever. Lighter than my ebay XTR clutch. Im really confused there, this thing feels like a weakling. Hopefully it holds. Maybe the internal slave has a lighter pedal? There is more surface area on the slave, but I think the master is bigger to make up for it so it should even out.

Yeah Barry I have the spec stage 3+ clutch (same pressure plate as yours), and it is barely stiffer than stock. It seemed to hold up on the turbo car, it may have been slipping in high gear a bit on the highway, but Im still not sure of that. So I took the clutch in to this local shop, to have the pressure plate clamping force increased. They measured it at 1600lbs, vs 1200lbs stock. They increased it to 2400 or 2500lbs for me. According to the website the stage 3+ should hold 450ft-lbs of torque, and I did the calculations and with my new pressure plate I should be good for 600 ft lbs now. Anyways, the point is the pedal is STILL the same! Which I find crazy, but it is!

Wow! Well thats good to hear atleast. The clutch seems perfect for a DD sofar the engagement feels pretty good. A little chatter right before it locks but my last clutch did the same.

So the spec3 is recomended for a modded 3400 ? Where did you get them? I've heard some are wrong pressure plate or something and dont fit right..

Is it a 6 puck? Does it chatter from the get go too?

Well I only have about 600 ft on mine, so far its good.

Your thinking EZ clutch. They have a issue. The specs are good. I have only seen one fail when the springs popped out.

Tapping like that could have also been empty lifters... How long was that motor sitting for before you got it? I had one that sat upside down on a engine stand to check rod bearings fix rear main cap sealing and rotate pistons (DON'T ASK! Long story) and it was upside down for about 1 day since I had to hunt for a timing cover gasket and when I finally got it back in it was tapping like a MOFO till they pumped back up again... I though I really f-ed something up after that. (This was the first 3400 that I did a first rebuild on for ole red... Back in Feb of 05)

Probably around a year with no oil in it, so that is quite a possibilitiy.
