Sorry we've been playing phone tag but by the time I got home yesterday it was 3 and I still had to change the oil on the legacy and take it for a ride after moving the exhaust to see if I fixed my rattle... and then I found a cracked radiator... JOY!!!!
But my personal opinion I would say it's somewhere suspension related obviously, I do not think it has to do with axle or anything. I think your getting a weight transfer and the weight is coming off one tire and your hearing the creek from it, which would point it to bushings or swaybar. I don't know what you have for bushings on that thing but they may be dried out.
As far as my clunk goes it's doing it WAY less and I just torqued the crap out of that lower mount, so I really do think that's the problem. I hope to have a new set of collars and some full length thread-less bolts made up BEFORE Bfest to put in there but we'll see.

Brakes feel good. Haven't really tested them yet though...have to bed in the pads first before I get too crazy. Pedal is not noticeably different, but it has been a LONG time since I drove it...so it's not a fair comparison.
Creak is less frequent and less loud with miles. CA bushings are the Del-A-Lums and sway bushings are poly, but I'd say it is definitely steering related more so than suspension. The steering wheel effort also seems higher than I remembered...but like I said it has been a long time since I drove this car. I'm gonna bomb around in it as much as I can and get some miles before taking it across country just to build some trust. haha

Why do you think it's steering related? just because your turning? remember when you turn your putting opposing forces on the wheels with the sway bar and the body roll of the turn, so no matter how tight the suspension is it will move a bit. Also I would think if it's turning related you'd be able to re-produce the sound in the garage by simply turning the wheel back and forth.
I was wondering if you did those del-a-lum bushings since it's been sitting and if you did well there is one change that could be the noise.

I forgot to mention I was able to reproduce it in the garage at full lock right and then partway back. Can't see anything, but it sounds like it's coming from the rack area. And if it was something with the rack it would make sense the steering wheel feels heavier.
Lots of lube on the Del-A-Lums and there isn't really any flex with them at all. Feels like they added some harshness over road bumps because they are basically solid. The only compliance left in the front suspension is the strut mounts.

How old are your inner tie rod bushings and what are they made of?

Delrins I got from Shane. I believe you had them made up in a group buy, right?

Yeah might have been those, that would exclude them... If they were rubber I was going to say I know those creaked like hell on my moms old Corsica, but they also did it upon suspension compression.

Took a GoPro video to try and get the creak on camera but couldn't hear anything in the vid. Took a couple pictures for gigs.

It's a great spot to take pictures. County fairgrounds with no traffic.

Got my cruise control all done and stereo wired in...two demands the wife had for the long road trip. Most of the to-do list is all done. Trans is still shifting like butter after my cable adjustment so I'm happy with that. Brakes feel good...I think they are a little stiffer with the new master cylinder, but that may just be the new braided hoses I'm feeling. The only thing that still makes me a little nervous is the creak. It got better with mileage for a while...but it's been the same for a while now and stopped improving.

How did you adjust your cables? Maybe you can fix my 1/2 gear issue when we get to Denver!

My del-a-lums added no extra noise to my car but a good bit of harshness over the bumps.

The creak is definitely steering, not the bushings. I'm thinking steering rack. And that job sucks.
The cable "adjustment" was just the cable retainer on the trans. The holes are SLIGHTLY oversize and I just put pressure on it back toward the engine while I tightened it down and it worked. Never had an issue any of the other times I had the trans out...but it was JUST barely not enough throw on the select. Strange that it worked for 2 and not 1 since it was the select that was the issue. But maybe it would work for your 2nd gear issue too.
