I thought the cam sensor only affected SFI functionality?

Absolutely right, it is supposed to... Disconnecting the cam sensor is supposed to put it into a batch-fire (Multi-Port style) mode, but I have encountered a few over the years that simply quit working altogether with a bad cam sensor, including my '95 Z-26 (which I only unplugged to test the theory), a '97 Monte Carlo, and an '01 3400 Impala, to name the ones I can think of off the top of my head, although that Impala had other issues anyway... I wasn't too impressed with the idea of putting more weak-links into the chain, but yes, it is SUPPOSED to work without the sensor... The '99 GA GT PCM now running my '90 turbo 'Retta functioned fine with the cam sensor unplugged, so it does sometimes work as advertised. If it is shorted-out from the wires being pinched though, all bets of what it is supposed to do are out the window anyway, and checking those wires is an easy fix anyway, even if I am wrong.
