Sorry I freaked out. Somehow and in some way I was thinking that you would be be under the car grinding and sanding so the Duralast would work at 100%. I don't know what I was thinking, other than "this would really help Eric out".

Aside from controlling when the fan turns on and off (which doesn't change), the computer can't control the engine temperature. The reason no one would see a benefit from a 180 degree stat, is the fan is still turning on at 210 or whatever the stock value is. So unless you are driving fast enough to keep the temp at 180, you aren't going to see much of a difference.

I've never had a t-stat do what you are describing. They either get stuck open, or open way too early, or don't open at all. It physically doesn't make sense for it to be opening and closing to cause a temperature fluctuation. Its just a piece of wax. The wax melts, it opens. It hardens, it closes. The fact that its fluctuating means its doing exactly what its supposed to be doing. I could see a low coolant issue causing this, OR an air pocket. Or its an issue with the temp sensor, gauge and/or wiring. How fast was the needle moving up and down?

Hey Rodney.
It would go from 1/4 to just above half and back continually and I could actually see it moving.
One complete cycle would take about 15-20 second up and back down.
The strange thing is this car usually never usually got to 1/4 in normal driving.

I go back to my original response. LOL

Check coolant level, burp the system if it does have an air pocket. Not sure if the quads had a bleeder valve or not though.

My V6 has acted similar when the level was low.

I'm guessing it could be a coolant issue.
Unfortunately the car is back in storage and is staying there for a while.
Thanx guys!!
