How far is Knoxville from the Dragon?

Google owns you... About an hour. And that's from the center of Knoxville to 17555 Tapoco Road Robbinsville, NC

So really already through most of it I think... I'm not sure really where it starts and ends exactly.

I was being lazy.

It would be in a much nicer part of TN than we saw in Memphis back in 2002...

One of my co-workers is from Knoxville and didnt have much of anything nice to say about it. But that is one man's opinion.

From Knoxville, the entire drive to the Dragon is a good one - As far as I'm concerned, the awesomeness of the entire Dragon experience starts where 411 meets US129... and that junction is only about 30 minutes from downtown Knoxville.

Actually, the more I think about this, the more this could be a REALLY cool idea for Bfest. Here's another idea for travelling to The Dragon. Instead of heading straight for it, we take the Foothills Parkway to where it dead ends into US129. Then, taking a left turn on US129, The Dragon "technically" starts about 5 miles further.

Along the Foothills Parkway the scenery is awesome, there is a nice climb in elevation and lots of areas for photos and parking to accommodate large groups. At the top of the Parkway, there is an overlook area called "Look Rock Tower". It is about a mile round trip PAVED walk, so it's very doable for most people, and especially kids.

Here are some pics that I took while I was up there:

Knoxville is an interesting idea for a venue - It really is more of a jumping off/home base location rather than a destination by itself. There is a lot to do inside Knoxville, but the plethora of available stuff to do around the area is quite amazing.

I've driven both the foothills, and the skyway. The foothills won out for me.

Random waterfalls, rock formations and beautiful scenery.

Some of the best scenery by the skyway is off the side streets.

So who else is going THIS YEAR that would be interested in working together (and then presenting at Bfest2013) a proposal for Knoxville for Bfest2014?

Mark is attending Bfest and said he would be willing to do that end of it.. I was seriously considering a trip to Knoxville to try to throw a proposal together. I think it would be a great place for Bfest

Burdick? ...or?

I was thinking about it more today and the wife and I put together some really killer ideas for a Knoxville Bfest. I almost totally forgot too that there are always multiple companies (photographers) that take pictures of your cars as you drive by... Pretty cool stuff. If you click here: http://129slayer.photoreflect.com/store ... 1WPV000306 and then click on Page 5 (at the bottom), you'll see some examples of the pics I'm talking about. They take your pic as you are driving around a corner. You can view them online usually within a day or two.

Anyhoo - Once you get through the Dragon to Deal's Gap, we would probably continue on to Fontana Dam for lunch... From there, we can double back or continue on and ultimately cut through the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and into Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge.
