Not sure on the cost at a shop($300 or $500). Sounds like you can do it, but you have to remember that the car will be gone for only one day at the shop. Also if something goes wrong they will have to eat the cost not you. Gas in the oil will make more wear than normal.

I would have swapped the coil with another one, that would tell you if it were the coil or the control module.

That would have saved the possible loss of another coil. Sorry man, and thanks scberetta I'll remember that so that I don't cost anybody some extra money!

I thought about switching the coils around but for the amount of work to take the assembly out I thought the $60 was worth it. The company I bought it from was willing to take it back if the problem wasn't resolved. The wife took the car for a 400 k trip and everything seems to be okay. I'll get on that oil change because I know gas in the oil can't be good. Good point about the shop being responsible if something goes wrong, that is if they actually admit to it, lol.

It's good to hear that it made a long trip with no trouble. Nice guys at that company, most wouldn't do that. Hope you find a good shop that takes care of you.

I'll probably tackle that chain myself once I look over the manual. I think I'll wait until 200k though. I have to fix my dodge durango first which won't be fun either. Broken exhaust bolts, fun wow. I appreciate all the advice.

Sure man, that's what Bnet is all about. Look into getting the tools to do it before your dead set on doing the job yourself. Make a new Topic and ask the people that have done it also. Sounds like you will have time to get all the info you need. Broken exhaust manifold bolts?

The problem has returned after 3 weeks, bogging intermittentlyagain. Should I bite the bullet and change the ECM? Can't get it to act up long enough the find the coil that is not firing. Is there a chance that it reset for a while because I diconnected the negative  battery connector while replacing the coil? What are the chances of the old coil being good?

Is an ICM the same as an ECM?

NO.

ICM= Ignition Control Module and mounts directly under your coil packs. It is what controls your coil packs.

ECM= Electronic Control Module and is also referred to by ECU. It's your cars computer, located under the passenger side of your dash in the car. Controls the whole car pretty much fuel/air wise and sensor wise.

What about my question previous to that? Do I replace the ICM?

Get it tested first ,but from your posts here and on Bstuff, yea, I'm guessing you almost surely have a bad ICM. GL.

Unfortunately there isn't a company around here to test it. I put the old coil back in and replaced the ICM last night. My fingers and toes are crossed. I also noticed there was a connector unplugged on the trans but doubt that has anything to do with it. The job goes a lot easier when you take the starter out.

See my reply on Bstuff about the connector and ICM. GL.
