Try harder...put a little strength behind it man! just kidding.
Thats not good. Pull off the heads and take a look or drop the oil pan and take a look. Either way...sounds like it may just be easier to do a swap.

Don't even bother Ron. It's DEAD! Would you really consider spending any money on it at this point?
Swap Time! Decision Time!
FUN TIME!!!

I agree! A 3.1 with a 3400 intake swap. Oh and a good cam too. A reman GM 3.1 is like 1G and there is no need to fab anything. LOL I'm still a 3.1 fan. Well that may be because I don't have a 3400 yet. What ever it takes to get it back on the road.

yeah Ron! like MPB said. If you wanna keep a 3.1 but wanna add a little power to it, you definetely MUST do a Hybrid Setup. 3400 top end with a 3.1 bottom end. You'll get some nice extra power out of that for sure. You'll just have to get it tuned or get a 3400 Swap/Hybrid chip from Ben at Wot-Tech.com. I should've done that myself with my new 3.1. hmmmm...

Agreed...on all points. Its dead...that's clear so there is actually NO point in putting any money into it at all. And really the only reason i would tear into it is to see the carnage.
I am considering a couple of different options 1) bite the money bullet and go get the 27K mile 3500 i found here for ~$800 2) do a 3.1/3400 hybrid swap as i have the top end parts 3) stick with a 2.8/3.1.
And FUN TIME INDEED!!! I am actually very much looking forward to tearing into it!!!

If you want to stay away from the extra 3500 pains as far as install goes and your really not looking for a power house then I think a 3.1/3400 hybrid would be a good route to go. Get a crane cam, or possibly a regrind from Ben if he offers them for the 3.1's and then go from there. I think that would make install a bit easier since the block should have the necessary mounts to fit your year.

I 2nd what 3X00 said on the cam(Crane cam). The big boys put a coating on the cam to make them last longer. Get on that hybrid and get that car back on the road! I think a swap to a 3400 or 3500 will make you start to hate all the trouble of putting one in and that could change you mind about your car. With the big Crane cam you won't have to change you stock shift points. You will have power all the way up to the shift unlike the stock cam. I can tell you that I spent alot of time thinking about the best way to do a cheap(not a full build) of a 3.1 when I had my 90GT. Now with that cam and the hybrid set up you may need to have a higher stall. Those large runners will kill off some of that low end that I know you love and are use to. I would use the large runner 3100 heads. That's just me, I think that for a good cylinder mix the chamber size should be the same as the bore. Not to step on any toes of those that are running 3500 heads on a 3400. It's just that I'm concertive. Many have done it with no problems at all.

Ron! You never mentioned that the car won the Million Mile Award a day before it died! Your car must have felt that winning the award would be the highlight of its time here on Earth and wanted to go out on a good note. RIP "To Hell and Back".

Go with 2000 and up everything. Heads and intakes.
Here is a link for what Comp Cams has.

I"ll have to look for the Crane grinds later.
Look at both brands and pick the one you want. Be sure to check any spec sheets for more info.
Hell man the 252H would be a nice street cam with not to much work needed on the chip tune. Just think about what you want out of the engine.....all street, street with some strip or all strip. Just remember that the bigger ports will move the power band up on their own.

RIP indeed. It was a little tough to put her into storage after years of being able to drive her nearly anytime I wanted to. I think the 'to hell' part of this car's life is coming to an end...now for the 'and back'!!! So stay tuned!!!
I agree Ryan that to get the Million Mile Award was definitely the highlight of it's life and I can't think of anything more fitting for it to go out on.

LOL. swap to 3x00. Eff the hybrid. You'll spend more energy, time and money putting it together, just to make less power.
