I have my first MS cert exam (70-640) in a month. Part of the evening school I've been taking for a year. (:
I am aiming for new job at ICT management and administration. Since never worked that high on the hierarchy before, I need something to prove my skills on it, and that's where the certs and new profession come in.
Glad to see I'm not the only nerd on the forums, but still most likely the biggest

Actually a DocuPrint 180MX (I run one 180MX and one 100MX)
A DocuColor 5000 has the input trays to the left of the processor and isn't nearly as tall.
true. I had the 5000 at work, and loved printing from it until the company ended their contract with Xerox and moved to Canon machines. assholes. anyway. Sometimes it broke or lost network connections over the weekend and the techs would not be able to get there until monday so I tried to do what I could to fix it. It was fun to figure it out. The most interesting part was when I had to add fuser oil to it. I felt I was adding oil to my car or something.

LMAO
Funny how that is, isn't it. And then someone like Jay sets up an IRC chat box. LOL

It isn't something he set up, all he did was make the channel on an existing irc network. I don't even know if he was the one that registered the channel honestly.

Congrats on passing your first test!
I do graphic design and actually double majored for a very short time. Made it through 1/2 of a semester of training for A+ before dropping the class. 22 credit hours and taking care of a sick mother and younger brother got to be too much for me

There are lots of ASE "certified" Mechanics and they don't know their head from their asses... LOL
Glad you passed. I really should go take this test for shits and giggles just to say I have a cert and rub it in where I work... maybe I'll become more valuable... LMAO yeah right.

Oh yea, that's for sure. My case is different though. I definitely know my shiz and then some.

Like I said, this is just to have something on my rather empty resume. It'll give me some foundation.

Sad to say - looking back at it - college degrees are the same way - they'll get you to the interview - you have to have the practical knowledge and experience that they want...
I'm def a computer nerd too - started a new job back in October working on our trading system software here on our trade floor.

All I can say from reading the A+ books that I bought a few years back though, is it seems pretty basic... If you test well then you should be fine. Thats my problem since I'm not a good sponge who can squeeze it all back out on paper, but stick me in a lab and I'll solve a networking problem. I was always first done in the lab environment and I had to help the kids who were getting A's on their tests... They could regurgitate it but couldn't apply what they were learning.
Thats kinda why I hate those certs anyways because it does not always mean the individual with the cert can do what they wrote down.
I don't have any certs, A+, Cisco, or Microsoft, but recently within an hour of unpacking it I had a network manageable electronic proximity door scanning system operating in my office to test it. I've now deployed it to one door in our facility and I'm getting ready to do two more if approved... I've done everything from mounting the hardware, pulling the cable, to installing everything used on the door itself. Not too many IT guys have the skills I have
Good luck though and let me know how stupid easy it is... I may just go take the exam to have the damn cert on my side.
I worked for a certification company a few years ago, and its CRAMCRAMCRAM Test FORGETFORGETFORGET
Thats why I never understood why people were paying HUGE amounts of money for the pc pro school that was advertised every 5 min around here. Yeah, you have a boatload of certs and your $20K in debt, but you still don't have the experience that would get you hired....

certs are nice to have but in the real world unless you have actual work experience you will probably get overlooked when seeking a job.
i'm doing this course
http://www.techlearningcenter.com/index ... Itemid=229 as part of the trade thing from the place i got laid off from just to get some real world paper experience.
with the A+ they really need to update it to reflect the technology that is around now and not make you study stuff that isn't used anymore.
