Blown a head gasket on a quad. Had a timing chain slip. Had the water pump bearing fail, and after having acquired a bearing press specifically designed for the quad found out you cant get the bearing. Ive melted plug boots, cracked the IDI cap, thrown a rod, and cracked a head, and had a lifter explode. Dropped a valve, broke a spring, melted a piston.
Done the same on a 60" v6. Add a broken cam, disintegrated oil rings, LIMG LIMG LIMG LIMG LIMG LIMG, rear spark plugs shooting out of the block, breaking off in the head, did I say LIMG?
Had a 427 catch on fire and pretty much burn to the ground. Had valve float on a 409 and it detonated on a run. Ive blown the intake of a Windsor 302 straight through the hood when my nitrous solenoid stuck open when I back peddled and jumped back on it.
Why is the Quad less reliable than anything else Ive destroyed?
But youre right about gas mileage! My first "Quad" got nearly 40mpg, and it was new in 1989. I could get great gas milage and not look like a pretentious douche in a Prius.
My white GTZ is easily 220 HP and it gets 35 mpg and I could drive it everyday.
I like 60*s, A LOT. But I like Quads too.
