Yeah man I would replace the springs. Body roll is one thing that will tell you and a mushy feeling too. You can replace the sway bar bushings and still have too much roll. The springs take up some roll and the sways kill off the rest. These cars stock will always have some roll, but when it rolls like a 70's car that's too much. By far I've only tested a few shocks/struts, bushings and springs. I have learned a few things in my limited testing. Many have said that sways are the only thing to stop roll, this is untrue to a point. All act together.
All and all a car with over 100k needs new springs anyway. Just remember that new mounts are in order for the shocks and struts.
I had some Moogs on my 90GT and they were called stock replacement. They were a bit harsh and a little lower when settled. If you can snag some stock springs you will be more happy in a DD.

I'm not too sure when Sensatrac's started being equated with "garbage", but I'd have to HARSHLY disagree. They are a perfect overall strut and shock. They "sense" the driving conditions and road condition, and adjust accordingly, hence the name.

I've always had good luck with them. And , actually, as someone else in this thread stated, if you start asking around somewhere besides HERE, many think KYB's are the garbage and low end of struts and shocks.

I will bottom out and bounce like a ball with Monroe, I dont with KYB... Don't know how else I can describe why I made the decision I did.

We may also be arguing two different points... Monroe for stock suspension is just fine, but as soon as you put any lowering spring that is on the market for our cars then forget it, they won't hold up to the abuse.

As far as the responses from other sites... if you have many more options other than the KYB's then it's very easy to call them garbage... We have OEM, replacement or cheaper and then the KYB's... Or Koni if you have money burning a hole in your pocket.

has anyone tried the Gabriel Guardian or ultra front struts with lowering springs? the Guardian's are cheap at $25 (part #801565 + 64 @rockauto), and in the 'more info' tab claims the fully collapsed length at 11.19" (didn't find info on the Ultra, likely the same?), as opposed to the Monroe-Matic and Sensi-Trac being 11.375 at fully collapsed... giving you a little bit more downwards room/stroke.

almost tempted to try out the ACDelco premium at $64 a unit, comparing acdelco to other aftermarket manufacturers is usually a win. but alas no info on the collapsed length for those, and the KYB's also... i understand most people's use of the KYB's, but just curious of the other options.

I ordered those Gabriels. Should be here next week. They are for my new winter Z26. I have some other bugs to work out of car before she's drivable. (like a 300 dollar fuel pump, no way I'm paying that)

The car has eibachs on it. I'll post a review. Rock only has like 7 of the left side remaining, or so they say.

I dont get why people knock the Monroe Sensa-Tracs. I have had two cars with those struts and shocks and loved them. Of course while your cruising around they are a lil "light in feel" i guess is the only way to describe it, but the second you toss the car around they are stiff as hell! Im not on drop springs and riding around with my beefed up FE7 suspension, and not once have i had any issues with them. They dont make the car bouncy, they dont ride like your on an air bubble, the are the happy medium between hard and soft suspension. KYBs are good for full out performance usage and if you like constant stiff suspension, the Monroes are right where you need to be for the everyday daily driver with spirited driving. The sensa-tracs offer the best OE feel with nice rigidity when pushed. And with the lifetime warrenty, a great all around strut/shock. Standard Monroes however, suck. I drove a car with those and they were way too soft. The sensa-tracs are the best Monroe makes and i would advise anyone to buy them
