Actually, Ace, just the opposite. The 3.61 FDR gets probably the best fuel mileage out of the Getrags. It's more of a "true" O/D 5th gear.
Then you have the 3.94 put into Beretta GTZ's, Achieva SC's, etc with the .72 5th gear. They get worse fuel mileage than the 3.61 but have much better 5th gear pulling power and ,imho, better power all around. 5th is kind of that "happy medium" between pulling gear and O/D gear on this trans.
Finally the 3.94 with the .81 5th gear. Worst fuel mileage getter of them all, but most potent trans of them all, and 5th pulls VERY nicely. Fuel mileage is still good, don't get me wrong, but thinking of 5th gear as an O/D gear on THIS trans at any speed above , say 70mph, is just laughable.
I think you misunderstood, I said best, meaning lowest number, as obviously that gives you a lower RPM at speed than a higher FDR. Others could take best for higher FDR which would give you more torque, but you sacrifice mpg and run a higher RPM.
But either way, we understand the same thing. lol

Right, lol. I'm one that considers "best" best power giver.

And of course, the FDR that gives you the best balance for your particular engine is the key.

Did they not come with the W-41 IDI?
Love the Lumina wheel. Got one on my Quad. Great mod.

Some of the SCX's did. His previous blue one had it, if I recall.

I know about the gearing differences, but I'm also sure the much smaller tire diameter has a lot to do with it.
Sorry I took this statement as saying its not the gearing its the 16" to 14" tire size.
I guess I should read deeper into your thoughts next time.

So, anyhow....
I was going to give her a wash today , just to see how much it might help her looks, though she desperately needs paint. But Mother Nature just overruled me. It just opened a gully washer outside....

Damn you I had you pegged as a V6 guy when we first started talking way back when. I now see that you are Quad freak.
Does Pacesetter make a header for that thing?
And do you read PM's?

I like 60*'s well enough and know them pretty well. But yes, I'm a Quad Fanatic. Always have been brutha!
"Upper mount"? Expand on that please.
Intake tube has been removed for a "make do" CAI. The air is sucked in there, passed through the filter and goes through a lower tube to the TB with the factory setup. So the air IS being filtered. But yes, a WAI or CAI is in the plans.
Sorry about the PM Money. I'll check it out bro. My bad.

No problem man. Thanks for the reply! It looks like the upper mount is missing the bolts. That is if it is the same as V6.

Nope. No missing bolts on the motor mount

Ok, just kind of looks like there should be two bolts in the center of the mount. So the early 90's mounts don't have that? The holes are there. Just asking so I can learn.

I think what you're looking at is just the rubber insert between the motor and mount. Where there is two small holes? There are two bolts through the top of the mount on the unibody.

Today I put a brand new Felpro set of intake/TB gaskets in the SCX. No pics. Not much to show really, lol. Didn't take any midstream and you can't see 'em when the job is done!
Anyhow, the old ones looked "ok" but were definitely aged.
TB was nice and clean and in great shape. Intake was too, but a little oil/carbon buildup from the years. Whenever I need to take this motor apart to rebuild, I'll get it cleaned and honed.
Maybe a wash/detail on the ol' girl tomorrow. Gotta fix my swamp cooler first!

Changed the oil today and put a nice new PF47E on her too. AC Delco of course.

Newly discovered fun fact:
The sway bar is not actually CONNECTED to the control arms. WTF?!?
I noticed that since I've had it , something was "off" a bit in the way the front end was acting. I didn't pin it down until yesterday when I hit a slight bump onto an overpass by my house at I40 speed (about 80mph) and the damn car jumped HARD to the left while going straight. Today, I got under the car and low and behold. The sway bar is connected at the sub-frame as it should be , bushings ,brackets and all.
HOWEVER, the sway bar end links are not only NOT connected, they're GONE. On both sides. Not a single piece of them there.... Jesus... What's next? Only one pad in each caliper in front?
So in the morning, new end links and install.....
