Would have been interesting to run a Camaro 3.4 ecu. 66U is what it was called. This was my first choice before doing the first OBDII Beretta swap because of its flash potential.

There are a few people who have done 3800SC swaps, but they can be problematic for many, due to the larger amount of custom fit work. Most of us prefer a drop in modification... lol

3400/3500 are relatively easy and have decent gains for the effort. Its all about money, time, and devotion to getting it done. Many start a swap or want to do a swap then are hit with facts that its hard to do, so most never actually get the swap completed, or give up after starting.

Of course, if a 3400 drop in w\o changing whire harness and other parts, I guess it is still WAY better than the good old 2800... so reliable ;)

In any case, if someone is ever trying to drop a 3800 in a Beretta, I can probably help saving time and money.

Thank you for this site and for the transmission advice on the other thread. Im going to have to start collecting in the spring when the snow starts to melt so I have plenty of time to do more research and start calling around to junkyards but now that I have a list. Thank you all for your help.

As stated before, a 3400/3500 is a bit more of an upgrade than just a 3400. If you're going to the trouble of dropping in a 3400, you may look at spending the extra little time and building the 3400/3500. However, the 3400 is still a great engine all around, especially above the 2.8 :). I also like the idea of being able to inspect the pistons, cylinders, and heads before dropping an engine in. Also replacing the lower intake gaskets with the felpro metal ones while it's on a engine stand... But this is because hate having to re-do things over and over again :).

If you get an '04 or '05 3400 the lower intake gasket issues are much less of a worry. GM was using pretty decent revised gasket at that point. My '04 engine doesn't seem to be losing coolant yet. It had 39k when installed, and I've run it pretty hard for the last 10k or so.

It's a great swap, there is no point in modifying the gen 2 engine once you've experience the gen 3 goodness.

OK now I have the list of parts I will need. What worries me now is the front engine mount. I found a PDF schematic on V6Z24.com and I would like to know if it would bolt right up like the strut tower bar does. Also it says that the mount is for a manual transmission not an auto. I would like to know what keeps this mount from working as an automatic mount. Has anyone used this diagram on their swap?

After reading the guide from Domesticcrew.com, I noticed that the front mount was slightly different. Then I started thinking that I could just whip up each one. It looked like the angles and the stuff that deals with mounting were the same. Just the center was different. I may have just solved another of my problems.
edit: Apparently I didnt solve my problem because every picture of the mount I see is dimensionless. I really would like the specs for the mount thats on the install guide on http://www.domesticcrew.com

I have the same pdf plan and there is a difference in the mounts for a manual trans and an auto - the engine sits in a diff spot for each.

I changed the LIMG on my '04 as preventative maintenance and the stock gasket was still good at that point. That's with over 20k of pounding the piss out of it.

If you are changing gaskets as a precaution, the metal Fel-Pros are awesome.

Only picture I can give you is the manual setup.

I think we need to see what the auto one looks like first.

If you eliminate the AC and get the factory idler pulley for the timing cover and shorter belt then you don't have to worry about that AC bracket bolting to the custom mount.
