You can not go back to OBDI... your car is a 96 model year they will ALWAYS expect to test it as OBDII being 96 or newer... for a pre 96 car you can go UP to OBDII and not have to worry about the ecu check to pass, but to be honest this is NOT a OBDII problem... You have a mechanical problem or sensor problem somewhere that needs to be fixed, not just bypassed.

The only code I have shut off on my ECU is the second o2 sensor and thats simply because I do not have it present, other than that, all of my other emissions systems are still working as installed and I have a very modified vehicle, so to get this to work on a stock setup should not be hard.

You should pull the sensor and replace it, or swap it with another one that you can get from someone on here or from a JY.

You have no resistance from sensor to battery because it does not go back to the battery it goes to the ECU first.

I kinda figured that with OBD 1 & 2, but it would be funny to back convert and see them trying to keep plugging a plug that wont go...lol

I mean the ground wire to battery negative shows closed no resistance with the beeper thinggy, and same with positive switched terminal, I am trying to find the PIN on my computer plug that is for this sensor signal so I can test for bad or intermittent connections, but this book is like a big maze with a million dead ends when finding where one wire goes...

Unfortunately the old sensor was thrown out because its wires were rotting and such at the sensor...

Yellow wire goes to pin 4, Red/black wire is tied to the Cam sensor and goes to pin 45, the red/black also runs to Pin F on the ICM plug, the red wire goes to pin 18, only the cam and crank sensor are fed off that power pin. All on Connector #2

Yellow is 24x position Input to ECU
Red/Black Ignition control reference low
Red Ignition Feed.

Thanks for that info, helped me to find the yellow wire.
I did checks and the 24x CKP sensor wires go where they belong and it gets its proper 12 volts when vehicle is on...

I also did this for the CAM sensor, and its correct too...
I guess I'll just replace the sensor when I get the money, I was really hoping I wouldn't have to buy anything...

Take a picture of the crank pulley distance from the sensor as well as the sensor ring on the inside of the pulley to ensure your using the right part.

For now, this is exactly what my pulley looks like, it is the stock harmonic balancer that was on my old 3100:

(The two holes on it are exactly like mine, there was not much as far as adjusting it to be closer to the ring...)


For spacing it is about 1-2 millimeters away from the inner ring... I checked the entire pulley and nothing is broken or missing...

On a 96, aren't there two crank sensors? One by the balancer and one on the rear of the engine.
Could it be that the one on the rear is "a". Maybe that is the one that's bad.

I'm not sure, the one in the rear, I swapped out with the one in my totaled 1990 Beretta and put it into my 1996 beretta because the book calls for the same sensors in that spot for both cars, and that one in the totaled car was bought brand new shortly before it got totaled...

And I still get the trouble code P0336 in my 1996, so idk, all three sensors were put new (with engine install) CPS, CKP, and CAM, All the wires are tested and proper, I went through each wire completely, and I even cleared out the codes, left the battery disconnected for about 5-10 minutes, the alignment of the sensor behind the pulley is as cllose as it will ever be before it touched the inductor, nothings helping so far...lol

I have the readings of the sensor posted earlier, idk if they can be cross referenced with anything, I'm really confused...

SIDE NOTE:
When the engine had work done it never had a battery connected to the ECM at all, for over 1 year, was that bad?
Maybe my computer completely forgot something?
(That is because it took that long to save up money for a refurbished engine for the car...)

The one in the back of the block only provides spark signal to the ICM. If that was bad, he wouldn't have any spark.

Image sizes should be below 3meg to upload properly.

I still havent changed the sensor yet, it was easier to try another ECM just in case...
I tried one from a 97 MonteCarlo, and I'm not seeing the P0336 code for now...
But I am seeing these codes: P1652 and P1675 with the 97 MonteCarlo ECM...
I can just ignore these codes, right?
(The stock ECM does not have these additional 2 codes when plugged in)

You can run a 97 Monte ecm without configuring it for the 96 properly it will never pass emissions that way.

This is my follow up post, I replaced the sensor twice, I realized that the brand of sensor in my case mattered...

When I rebuilt the engine, I had bought the BWD brand 24x CKP Sensor for behind the pulley...
Having a lifetime warranty, I exchanged it, Same problem, while my pulley was off, I inspected that it was clean and perfectly round, which it was...
I still received the same problem P0336 code in my ECM after 30 minutes of no battery and proper clearing of all DTC's...

I returned the BWD exchanged sensor for my old BWD sensor, and bought (Because I'm frustrated) the AC-Delco brand sensor for about 52 dollars at advanced...

I installed the sensor, put the pulley back on, and it is fixed, no error codes at all!

The part number sensor I used for my AC-Delco sensor is: 213-936
