More good news. When checking the cam tower bolt holes on the 086 head today, I discovered two with thrashed threads. Gonna have to heli coil them. I think I may just heli coil all 20 holes and call it a day on that aspect. Never have to worry again if my cam tower bolts are staying tight.

Cam tower bolts are one weak point on this style motor. They all strip out eventually......

Best thing to do on any aluminum threads. Exactly why I did all of my exhaust ones.

very very nice car SGR, nice find and a tasteful approach to your engine tuning and this car will be a show-stopper for sure.. and welcome to the world of q4, I know I'm a bit dated on my response time but it's good to see another GTZ.. especially a quasar quad..

Thanks Tvc. Much appreciated. Although, I'm not at all new to Quads. I've owned them for well over a decade. :D

I am a bit addicted..... She's gotten a lot of work in the last three months, and again in the last week and more to come with body ,paint , and interior work... I'll get there someday. She'll be pristine again. But she's getting to "pretty damn clean" ,lol.

Again, thanks for the comps.

Ok, so today I got the inner timing cover painted up. Again, I'm no Van Gogh, but hey, it's definitely better than it was before! Also, the part in the front that looks "silver" is a reflection , not missed paint. Note the close up pic. Turned out decent, and I'm happy. It probably could have used one more coat, but I was in a less than patient mood today....

Pics,enjoy.

1 Before, 4 After.

I have to ask SGR...do you need a strut tower brace and can you use a Cavy frame cross bar with your trans?

I wish I wasn't so poor, I work 4 jobs and wish I didn't have to drive my 90 garnet gtz as a daily driver.. it kills me to put miles on her but money is tight.. I am envious of all you guys taking these cars and making them shine like new and tuning them up.. If I had my way, I'd have the ceramic coated headers and a custom chip, some slotted brakes, better exhaust, maybe a nice stereo, and a garage to store her.. Finished college and seems like it was a lot of money for no jobs... that quasar quad in particular makes me melt, its my second dream beretta, third being a black/white gtz... But hey SGR, since I have driven a quad 4 GTZ beretta, I'm telling you, I don't know if I can enjoy another beretta quite like the gtz..

Very nice, don't ever give her up. Garage her when you can. My car is a POS, if mine looked like yours I'd drive the 04 Cav into the ground. I just like to drive the Beretta more than the Cav. You can't hate what you DD. Oh, buy the way I have a base 95. Nothing close to what you have.
Great job on keeping it look so good!

I could use a strut tower brace, I'd like to put one on it eventually. Do you have one? Not sure what you're asking about the "cavy frame cross bar"?

It's not so much money, as it is the time you invest. Believe it or not, fixing these cars up can be relatively cheap, but you will have a significant time investment. Then again, if I add my money in parts up over the last three months...... It's more than I care to admit.... :D

Oh, yes, and PATIENCE. I've never had a ton of that, but you learn it. Work on cars long enough and it comes. But you still get colorful with the language sometimes...... :D

I have the STB and the frame brace. How do I say this...the frame brace fits with the 3T40, but not the 4T60 and I'm not sure if you can use it with your 5sp. It mounts in front of the trans on the frame. Someone else will have to chime in on this.

Yeah.
It's kind of thin, but has to help some.

Hey mike the yard near me has those strut bars for $10 and i can get a lower one for about 5 maybe less. If you want me to grab those and throw them in the pile i will do so ;)

I can also take the lower strut bars and weld a solid peice of 3/4" steel stake in the stamped groove for added rigidity, did it on my car and it actually stiffened up the front quite a bit more vs just the bar itself!
