I got lucky with the subi, that shifter the base of the shaft is a ball joint for the main pivot point, and the linkage attaches to the shaft above that, so I just got a slide on adjustable mount and I was able to move the linkage attachment point up on the shift arm. Works out good, but yes I see your dilemma.
And Eric... You'll just never understand. Both me and my cousin just laugh when people call nitrous cheating.

Nitrous is cheating...You know as well as I do that n/a vs nitrous is not apples/apples. But if you recall correctly I'll be cheating with the Camaro some day. I've got forged pistons and it should hold together with a 100 shot ok. I'd like to convert to EFI before playing with it though.
Geoff, I might be doing the same thing this weekend, I'm shortening Robert's shifter. How is the throw with the loss of leverage? Still easy to shift I presume?

The throw is a lil tigher feeling. I also have new oil-impregnated bushings on my shifter so its taken all the play out, but its not bad actually. While your moving its a breeze. I have a small issue with some slop in my selector arm so its a lil looser, but good

Its 1000 times better than stock and 100 times better than the previous modded sunbird shifter.

The selector arm on the trans? I've got the dickman bushings everywhere and never had any problems.

I guess I missed the rule book that said I had to stay N/A... Forced induction is a way to improve power on a small displacement engine where you can't just slap in a good ole GM v8 and cam the living crap out of it. V6 vs v8 is not apples/apples either.
When there are no rules there is no cheating... Power is power and I'm making it and getting it to the ground through a 4tsleezyE.
Sorry but when that cheating BS word gets thrown around it just pisses me off. It bugs me the most because if I had done a turbo I doubt I would get told I'm cheating all the time, even though they are the same principal.
Sorry Geoff, I'll leave your thread alone now.

Nitrous guys don't like ball busting...lesson learned. haha
I didn't realized the GTZ select arms were different from standard. I wonder which mine is? My trans is native to the car as far as I know, but the select arm came from Boner's 5spd lot and that trans was from a 90 GTZ. I'll compared when Robert gets here Saturday I guess.

GTZ select arms are the same as the V6 ones. There is a different shifter arm on the trans between the Quads and the V6s, i know cause i have both here. I also have one from a 2.2 5spd, that thing is long!
Now, in speaking of the select arm, there is a different one for the 90-91 Quads, 92-94 Quads and 88+ V6's. The early Quads and the V6's have the same selector arm. In 92 when the 3.94 trans came out, NP changed the selector arm on the trans for some reason. Its shorter, and a lil more robust but is not a direct replacement for the early selector arms. It has to be heated and formed/bent to work with the older style but it does work with the older trannies and does remove about 1" of selection travel.

As you go shorter the side to side select becomes noticeable stiffer.

It all changes. Thats why i started a thread about full custom shifters. Im gonna make a prototype that will give me stock height shifter, with 1/2-1/3 the full range of motion (1/2-1/3 the throw and selection)
