Ok, if it is the one that lifts the shift shaft it is the select. I don't think I've heard of a select breaking before. They are available from VPI.

I am looking to make Getrag shift and select cables for GM FWD cars equipped with the Getrag Muncie 282 transmissions. V-6 and Quad 4 should be all the same. If I see enough interest I will make them. There are a few variations but I can make a one size fits all cable and adapter parts to make them fit all. You would grind or dill out the pins on the shifter arm and the lever on the trans and bolt in my adapter pins.

I am looking for used cables to use for R&D. If you send me some cables I will give you a nice discount when I get them made. Send me a picture of the ends first so I do not get a lot of the same types.

They would be OEM quality and around $100 each.

I ordered my select cable from rockauto, used the discount code :D now I have an official GM cable that I paid $240 shipped for and don't need. Any one want it before I return it. They are going to charge me a 20% restock fee so I will sell it for $200 shipped anywhere in the states, international may be a bit more for shipping. Let me know, I will make f/s thread when I get out of work.

And sorry for leading you in the wrong direction on that one. I never hear of the selects breaking. I'd definitely put a protective heat sleeve on it.

No problem woody, I didn't give the best description of what was wrong. I appreciate the effort.

I have posted a solution to this many times......and it just gets ignored.

Once you buy the new cable simply wrap it in (dont remember the name) but it looks like black electrical tape....but its like flexible rubber. Wrap it on the ends.....it will then mold on to the cable and the cable end.

I had to replace mine with brand new ones every 2 or 3 months. So i finally tried this.....i have not yet had a issue....KNOCK ON WOOD!!!!!

At least that was what fixed my issue. The ends would get seperated fromt the cable.....leaving just the middle cable exposed.

I will get a pic of the tape i used if anyone wants one.

I didn't think they could help. Oh well, looks like other than Bogger Bushings, Rodney has the market cornered.

I posted this on 60 degree but all I got for a response was "No one replied to an email I sent" I also don't know what that e-mail even said... Composition can defiantly deter a company from working with you.

Someone should be calling these companies to see if they can reproduce these cables... SOMEONE on this list should be able to do it easily!

Then why does he have a post ASKING for cables for R&D?

I don't understand how the variations in length is an issue... Just get the ends duplicated and have the length be specified upon ordering...

The custom shops I posted are all about CUSTOM cables for CUSTOM applications... not mass production so I don't see why they wouldn't be able to help.

With a company description like this, DON'T tell me they wont make you cable.
CALIFORNIA PUSH-PULL, INC. is capable of building any size, type, or length of cable to meet your requirements. Whether you are a large Industrial company or an individual that needs a solution, we are here to fulfill your cable needs.

We have push & pull cables, shift controls, self-locking controls, multi-axis controls, control heads, spool valve adaptors, adjustable over center-locking brake levers, accelerator controls, Unidrum lever controls, Hydraulic lever systems, and all the hardware and accessories possibly needed.
If you want to say it costs too much well then that's a different story... You gotta pay to play.

i tried.emailing.him and thats what he said is" pc order needing to be a 300 pc order and that the variations in size have prevented him from making them". Me personally jon i agree with you bout the whole length thing as they only 1-3" difference in size
