88,000 miles and rust free! what a shame...
Oh, all 4 of the blue factory GM floor mats are still in it! They will take some cleaning, but they appeared to be in good shape!

I am in love LOL. just bought another beretta today, was still plated guy drove it to my house
not bad for $500. he was asking 600 and was pretty tight on 450 without the cd player, i gave him 5 and he drove it 60 km to my house has a full tank of gas too
1996 z26 3100 automatic
its solid, clean and drives
all 4 rims + full size spare same rim.
everything works except needs new plugs on the marker lights.
The paint is chipped off around the rear wells but only light surface rust i could clean the rust off easy its very little and no holes what so ever its solid.
2 rear tires are like new, fronts are under half but prob pass safety, ebrake and everything mechanical seems to be working and it has CUP HOLDERS lol my 88 doesnt
Front lip has some cracking going on one side, but is not sagging in the center, i may use my z26 bumper i have to put on this car.
And it doesnt have an aluminum spoiler LOL. i think im going to plate it this week, insurance should be cheaper, im getting charged classical insurance for my 88 cuz its older then 20 years.
Some pics...

i borrowed my friends scanner, the 96 comes up with a EVAP something problem but i cleared it and hasnt come back yet.
My 88 on the other hand has a ton of codes lol, erg, something with the 02 sensor and some other code, but i cleared them all and havent come back, the 02 could have been from before i changed it and saved itself in the ecm.
The scanner is a snap on it has ability to run the car and shows you some things, rpm, throttle position open closed loop, and o2 readings.
While driving around it stays on RICH once in a while it bounced between lean and rich but most part just stays on RICH. i wonder if its because my ecm is for an auto and im running a 5 speed. this could be a reason why my car seems to pull hard in upper rpm too i dont know, the engine is getting more fuel then it should if its running rich all the time.

excellent Base for a 3500!!!! do it!
more fuel in the top is not going to make you faster....you have to be leaner ( to a point) and Gm tuning is pretty much on the rich side.

so the rich thing could just be normal.
I got plates for the Z today and it seems slow compared to my 88 3.1 5 speed. could be the auto. or just needs a 3400

seems to have some laggggg between the time i hammer the throttle till it actually snaps in and goes, drives great otherwise, needs front rotors, the brake peddle is kinda bouncy and may need an axle, clicks when i take off. i may have one if its the driver side and the one from my 88 base 4cyl auto 3 speed will be the same as the Z 4 speed auto.

You need an axle from an ABS car. Your 88 axle won't work.

ya i never thought of that

i forget the new one has abs.. i only have had it since yesterday and im so use to working on the 88.
One from a grand am is different ? has to be beretta? or maybe a 96 cavy would be the same ? just so i know maybe i can find some that are decent at the wreckers, will cost me 10 bucks each from the junk yard, so if i can get away with a used one rather then 120 for 1 new one. i just put 2 new ones in the 88 and one is making noises again

good job they have 1 yr warranty

OBD1.5, so no tune. You would have to have a OBD2 computer.

hmmmm. well with my friends scanner i used the obd2 chip in the connector, maybe it just reads the same ? is there an obd2 computer that will plug into my harness or do i need to do a harness swap ?
Just went out again for the past hour driving around town and on the highway, at 55 mph it seems to go in and out of over drive alot but shifting smooth. it also seems really slow compared to my 88 3.1 5 speed, i think my 88 would walk all over it..
Engine light was on when i got it and it was EVAP something, i cleared it and hasnt come back, when i first start it sometimes its slurging like its cammed out a little but starving for fuel maybe ? like pulsing but seems to clear up once i start driving.

He DOES have an OBDII ECM. It's a '96, not a '95. Completely tune-able and readable.
Feedback in the brake pedal is warped rotors, yes.
Clicking is very likely CV Joint. Oh, and YES YOU CAN use a non ABS cv joint, it would just throw an ABS light because of no working wheel sensor. However, that said, I'm fairly certain an '88 3t40 and an '96 4t60e transmission use different CV Joints (lengthwise, mounting and part numbers).
Good call on both.
As to the kicking in and out of OD , sounds like a weak TCC solenoid.
Not a bad purchase. Grats.

I will look into this... it seemed ok long as i didnt go under 55 mph it stayed in OD if i was over that speed but below its in and out every slight slop or decline or on and off the throttle, i just drove it in D not OD Rpm was around 2,000 in D and 1,500 in OD so not much difference.
I looked at the weight... the 96 Z26 is 39XX LBS almost 2 TON. dam i would get my money back if i drove it over the scales, so no way i can loose money on this car. lol..
My 88 base 4cylinder auto is 36XX LBS. factor in that i put in a v6 but added a 5 speed so the manual should be lighter then the 3 spd that was in it.
The 96 is at least 300-400 LBS heavier then my 88, factor in the auto vs manual, ya i know why it seems slower now.
a friend was just by to check it out he likes it more then my other one and hes not into beretta's but he really likes the Z. i tryed to get him to drive one and line them up but he had to get home

another night lol. i know for a fact my old school 3.1 5 speed is a quicker car.
I plan to keep this Z its in good shape, i was under it tonight first time i even looked under it, the floors are just like new no rust underneath, some surface here and there but mostly painted still, there is plugs in the top of the rockers from being oil sprayed i assume at some point. very very very very clean, it even smells like a new car inside..
Im going to look for a 3400 for cheap... for now im going to put rotors and pad on the front, replace the 1 marker light get a new plug for the other rear marker and take it in to get inspected, everything else works so i think it will pass no problem.
Once i get it pollution tested im taking the resonator off maybe throw an aftermarket cat on and throw my 3400 TB on it see what that does for it.
My Gf is going to drive it until next month at least and decide if she wants to put her car back on the road or she may fall in love with the retta which is fine with me long as i get to drive it some times, and ill get to do all the work to it.
I have some nice aftermarket white spoke rims i think some pics at the beginning of this topic, they are white 16" i think would look nice on it, but i know how everyone likes the stock rims on these cars. too bad it didnt have the Z rims, i could have bought a nice set 2 months ago for 150 bucks but i think they are sold now.

What you're describing now as to the TCC sounds perfectly normal on grades, at speeds below 55mph. I wouldn't sweat it.

it seems kind of sluggish though too. if i hammer it to the floor its delayed in the time before it opens up and screams. doesnt seem to pull as hard as my 88 either but still goes ok.
Cold start it slurges a little, not like a miss fire but as if im feathering the throttle really fast that it cant keep up or something like that, chugging kind of but once i take off it clears up and is fine after. only once in a while when i first start it.. maybe fuel pump or something related fuel pressure ? maybe its normal i dont know.
It does drive nice though, but feels weird, maybe the dash and it has air bags so the steering wheel is larger then the 88, feels like im sitting really close to the steering wheel but is rather comfortable. when i get in i dont want to get out lol. i probably put 60 KM on it just driving around town tonight and still has 3/4 tank of fuel..
Everything else seems normal, oil pressure is at half on the gauge and goes up a little but never below seems really steady at half. the temp never goes above 1/4 and is steady at that.
I wounder if some of the clicking is the brakes staying on for a split second cuz they rotors are way warped bad you can really feel it when you hit the brakes. but i am suspecting its a CV

not what i want to replace already LOL but if thats the biggest thing then its not so bad, i got it for a good price. i think scrap right now is 240 a ton, it was at 300/ TON not long ago, so i would get 480.00 to drive it over the scales, it was worth every penny i paid.
I didnt really have the extra to buy another car, i wanted to use some parts on mine, strip all the good parts off and scrap it to get most of my money back, and then double my money on the extra parts. rims/tires ect. in the pictures i seen it looked really rusty so i thought it would be toast. but ill tell you this thing is sooo darn clean minus the paint chipping around the back and on the trunk lid. the rust around the wheels i was wiping it off with my fingers tonight very light surface and only in a few spots, most where the paint is off the primer is still under it and protecting the metal. the floors are mint under neath, its very clean, the struts/shocks.rear axle. bottom of trunk.brake lines / fuel lines/ all look brand new.
Dont worry i am not scraping it, my plans have changed to keeping it and driving it as my main car and slowly work on the 88 and do my turbo swap and stuff on it maybe the Z kit i have for it too. For a few weeks though my gf will be driving it until her car is licenced again, so in the mean time i get to suffer driving the 88, she wont drive it..
I had her driving it a couple of times and she did ok for first time driving manual, she stalled it once out of 25 stops we done and it was the first stop we came to after that she was ok, she just has to be quicker on shifting, she takes the time to look at the shifter to see what gear its going into and does way to much thinking lol, shes afraid she will run into someone cuz she has to push the clutch and brake and down shift at the same time and she afraid she will forget the clutch and run into someone and she dont want to bang it up. i try all the time to get her to drive it even to the store and she doesnt want to. the auto though she may really like it maybe will become her car. but i will get to play with it and tweak it out lol.

And thanks for the compliments on my new car, do i fit into the beretta club now ? lol .... if i put a spoiler on this one ?? there is the same one forsale for 60 bucks online.. haha. NO i wont rice it out, i might put the other rims on it... but i like these ones on it too. for now its staying as is.
If ya dont like it, ill start my own beretta fest LOL and they will be all my beretta's HAHAHA i need a few more i could start my own fest.
There was a 90 gt forsale, 500 bucks.. i offered them 300 they wouldnt budge on the price. it has rust and interior was rough, i got a killer deal on this car i think, theres a 94 listed locally too asking 850.00 and its in worse shape then the one i just got.
