Snapped the front ebrake cable last night...called Napa and they can't get one. Luckily it looks like RockAuto has what I need. Why does getting parts always have to be so difficult. I guess that's what we get for holding on to throw away cars.

Since when is rock auto difficult? I look at the local auto parts stores these days and see them as simply mainstream crap for 00 to 09 vehicles. They don't cover old cars or even newer cars... they are simply trying to make a profit these days, where as my uncle used to cater to the public and make sure he had the parts people wanted and needed. Advance auto and Autozone started that and it seems that Napa is starting to follow along with their stock, and availability.

Napa is the only game in town...so if they don't have it, I have to wait. It doesn't seem like that long ago whenever I needed something for the Beretta is was always in stock at Napa...and that is never the case any more.

exactly my point of them mainstreaming everything and only stocking 00-09 stuff. Rock auto is really not that bad of a wait. I typically have my stuff within 3 days... Then again I do not expect my beretta to be a daily driver so I can wait.

This is why I have 5. When something breaks I can drive one of the others to the junkyard. Lol

All of my rides are older than 2000, so I'm sure you can see where it's more of a pain in my ass. haha

Junkyard parts in NY are basically pointless.

All of my rides are pre 96 lol, I feel your pain. Anything I need to get is always on order. Sometimes you can find a good part here or there at the boneyard. But I'm in Wisconsin so I know how you feel about JY parts.

Yeah, parts stores are a fucking joke. I've wasted almost 3 years in them during my life. It's the same old crap at every one of them... they're only willing to pay counter people just over minimum wage. Last one I started in 9/2010 I started at $8 as the only ASE certed person in the store, the only person with a 4 year degree, almost 2 years as an assistant manager and another half year as a shift manager. That's all they told me they could start me at...

So you can see why most parts counter guys don't know dick these days, it just doesn't pay. Autozone is all about the pretty store and the bullshit out on the floor. Advanced is just as bad... NAPA stores have such a screwed up computer system that it's easier to get it from RockAuto. O'Reilly stores are kind of junky, but they try to emphasize knowledgeable people - but refuse to pay them. But a lot of the places operate on a payroll bonus type of deal, so the less it costs to have workers in the store - the more the manager makes. It's like cutting your own throat. It really bums me out, because at every parts store - there are at least 1 or 2 guys who are dedicated to the trade and stuck in their job at a bf'n wage.

Anytime I go to any parts store these days I just walk in and grab a computer. Most people won't say crap. Or just order from RA and pay less anyways.

Regardless of all of that crap, I love GM parts. You get what you pay for, end of story.

Sorry for all of the cursing, but I've got beef with parts stores. I'm damn glad I don't have to deal with that crap anymore.

parts stores or not it's still RETAIL which is not a high paying job market. so them not wanting to pay a lot an hour doesn't really surprise me. if your going into this line of retail thinking your going make a lot an hour your in for a real surprise.

i usually go for rock auto since most of the time the parts stores aren't going to have it or if they do it's 3 times the price on rock auto for the same part but better brand from rock auto. sometime i check ebay to see if anyone is selling a brand new version of the part number i'm looking for. i lucked out with the tie-rods for the Grand Am and got all 4 for the price i would have paid for one outer which was $45. they were all raybestos/spicer branded tie-rods. both inner and both out.

The problem is that it's a position that demands a skillset. In order to get people with the desired skillset, better payment would go a long way.

I've finally got a career now though.

I'm beginning to love Rock Auto. Got the cable and installed it yesterday. I'm so happy to have an ebrake back!
