This part felt on the floor when i took out the steering column. I had to take it out because i could not start the engine anymore or turn the ignition off because i can turn the key around but nothing happens to i took it out to swap in a new steering lock. Now i wonder where this part goes...

That's what lets you turn the car on or off. Mine broke and I couldn't turn my car off. I'd bet there is nothing wrong with the lock.

I had no idea what had happened so I took it to a shop. They told me the one of the "rods" in the column broke. So I guess at that time they were able to order a new one. That was ten years ago though.

I have a 1992 steering column in my attic. My column's adjustable tilt won't lock
which is why I replaced it.
If it's not too hard to pull that part, I could pull the part and ship it to you.
Or ship you the whole column and you pull it out. What year is your car?

Check your local auto parts store... they may have this kit available for your year.

GM I doubt it, but if you can they will probably want an arm and a leg for it...
Ebay has some listings. Search for GM steering column repair kit and see what you can find that will ship to you.

Boy they sure know what you need and make you pay for it. Saw that when I was looking up parts for the 67 Camaro I had. Two little plastic bushings for the brake pedal(where it rides on the shaft) were like 20 bucks.
Anyway glad you found one.

Try finding the older style gear. Not as easy and way more expensive. Dumbest idea to make that out of a cast material. Stamped steel would have been better.

I posted in your other thread before I saw this one  Hope this all goes well for you!

I had the lock cylinder freeze up on my '94 about a month or so ago - got stuck in the RUN position and couldn't turn the car off. Had to pull the fuel injection fuse and disconnect the battery so I wouldn't drain it with the radio running while I was at work, LOL!

too bad the spare steering column isnt height adjustable and does not have cruise controle. So i have to swap the parts out i need.

You guys can give me a tip how to take that cover off? I tried some but havent found anything to unbolt or something and i dont want to break it.
