Which one is more rare, gtu or gt? And a third option, 5spd version? If i read right the 88 were rarer with only 3000 made in 88, with the other 12000 made as a 89. If thats the case, whats the 2.8 like? Can it get out of its own way? Not looking for z26 speed but a nice countru driver. Another thing if i read right, they both had fe3 suspension? And are alike in same years with the gtu having grfx?
(Yes, i put the probe thread up, but found one of two beretta deals i may chase

, just something about these damned cars, i cant shake it!)

Ill also add idk the condition of either, ill be calling tomorrow about them and they're priced 1000 and 900.respectively. for thread purposes, well assume they're in identical shape, and both are suitable for dd use.

Gtu will be able to keep up with z26 for most part if its 5spd but will lose in the end. Gtu is more rare and hard to find in decent shape n imho worth fixing up to be daily driver. They both get bout same mpg pending driving habits. Its more or less what u desire

88's can be bastard cases. Problems with door hinges, build quality, etc.
The 96Z doesn't have FE7, just letting you know.
If I was going for a DD, I'd go with the 90 GT. Only because I wouldn't want to run a GTU into the ground.

Haha, I DD a GTU!
I'd go for the GTU though, much neater IMO than a 90 GT. I always get complements from people on how nice and neat it is, I've even had people tell me how classic it is LOL. Seems like VW guys like it the most though.
From what I've read, GTU's came standard with stiffer suspension.
The GTU was a special Beretta model on sale from 1988-89. Each was made by taking a fully loaded Beretta GT and shipping it to Car and Concepts. They equipped it with 16x7" aluminum alloys, custom ground effects, stiffer suspension, a spoiler, mirrors, custom trim, and decals. With the stiffer suspension equipped on the GTUs, these cars were capable of 0.92 G on the skidpad, well above most cars available today and gave it a extra comfortable ride. GTUs came in black, white, or red.
I'm not sure where they got that stiffer suspension gives a "extra comfortable ride" though, lol

As HeavyWoody said most all '88 models are a little funky as they are the first model year of the Beretta. *Disclaimer* Yeah yeah yeah, I know that they made '87s but many of them never hit the streets. If you have time, wait to find an '89 GTU. But really, the small issues that the '88s present are easily overcomable. So if you have a line on a good looking '88, snag it.

Not bad, from my expericnce on the flat it seems more or less equal to a '10 Cobalt (I've driven it quite a few times for a while), maybe a small bit faster, and up hills it seems like it would murder the Cobalt. Not sure about an '88, but the 89' is around 135HP and ~180TQ IIRC. Might be wrong though.
I'd go for the GTU. Any way to post a pic of them up on here?
valve gear OHV
2 valves per cylinder
12 Total valves
maximum power output 136.9 PS (135 bhp) (100.7 kW)
at 4200 rpm
specific output 43.1 bhp/litre
0.71 bhp/cu in
maximum torque 244 Nm (180 ft·lb) (24.9 kgm)
at 3600 rpm

HP is the same from 88-89. 88 uses a MAF and a round filter setup while the 89 uses no MAF and a square airbox setup. 88 has the windshield washer pump located out of the tank up by the firewall whereas the 89 has it in the tank. some of the 88s got the 87 door panels while some 88s and all 89s got the revised style. The sideskirts are different from 88 to 89 and also from the GTU's to the INDY's as well. The mirror mounts are different also.
There's other stuff as well but I cant recall right now.

Oh yeah, my 88 had a solid rear Z51 bar and my 89 as well as a few other members 89s did not have the bar.

Hmm, didn't know about the side skirts. Got any pics of the differences?
Could have sworn that the 88's had like 5hp less than the 89's.

The pics i can see of the gtu are horrible. And the gt doesnt have any pics posted. I called bout the 96z today, 84 thousand miles, gaskets done already. And is as good of shape as anyone could imagine in ohio. No dash cracks
