Heater Vents Not Switching

Hey guys

The other day, the wife was driving the '95 Base 3100 to work and it was cold out and she phoned me to tell me the front windshield wasn't defrosting and the heat was only blowing out the vents in the dash not the defrost one on the top of the dash. I told her to cycle thru the settings on the switch and no luck. Checked it today and yeah it's just blowing out the dash vents. Any idea why this would just quit as it's been working just fine up until the other day. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it's dipping into the minus's this week and we're supposed to get snow tonight and I'd like to be able to get it working again so she'll be okay to drive the Base until I get the GT brakes done and figure out why it's pouring oil out of the block...but that's another post.

Thanks in advance. Really starting to appreciate having this forum...really learning a lot about these cars.

Check your vacuum lines (usually the one under the battery is the culprit).

I have a problem that is close to this and it only happens when it is cold.Mine only flows through the defrost vent and the floor. Everything works fine when it's hot. Don't even think about changing the controls or the door motor(they are not the problem). I think the vent doors are sticking. But yes, check the vacuum lines first.
