Complete OBD2 swap guide?

Post by FoxND001 »

Sorry for the n00bish question, but does anyone know what ever happened to the OBD2 swap guide that used to be on bstuff some years back? Or, does anyone have a complete OBD2 swap guide or a link to a step-by-step set of instructions?

I'm finally getting around to doing the swap (bought the parts years ago), and I want to make sure I have everything before I start. I have read the 1.5 to 2.0 guide for the harness, but I could have sworn that there was another guide that walked you through the whole process...

Thanks for keeping interest in our 'retta's alive! I've got mine back from the dead, put in a 3400, have it lowered with eibach springs, swapped to a 5-speed 282, and now hope to get ODB2 going. Once I get it all done, I hope to post it in the gallery...

If you're able to swap in a 282 and 3400, the obd2 swap won't be an issue. It really isn't as hard as it sounds. The biggest problem is when the bulkhead connectors are covered in rubber.. Just plan on taking lots of time breaking it up and removing it.

I remember Jon recommended using a chisel to cut the firewall around the plug in the donor car. pretty slick trick

I know the evap purge valve near the coil pack is different between obd1.5 and obd2 and grab the plastic hose that runs off it into the charcoal canaster. The diaphram for the hvac door is different. The glovebox is different. The computer mount is probably different. The tach wont work unless you get the obd2 cluster or run a wire for the tach signal. The injector harness is different as well. ""Technically"" The cooling fan is different but the plug ends are the same and you can use the old fan if you want to. interior and dash harness get swapped. If you have cruise control now make sure your donor dash harness had cruise because the plug isn't there if it didn't come from the factory with cruise. At least in my experiences. I think that about covers it. Anyone else remember anything else?

Well if he has OBDI.5 there is no need to convert anymore due to tuning being available, unless of course he would rather tune with a MAF and not speed density like OBDI.
