Oil pan knock, cold start, disappears warm

Upon starting the beretta yesterday, and again today, I developed knock in what seems to be the oil pan. It "feels" by hand thats where its coming from. I could try to get a video of it, but looking around youtube I found a close representation of the sound.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsINALOF5PE - Someone else's fiero

Its not so audible until you get underneath, then its pretty loud. I put the car on jacks before i started so i could look and feel around, and it seems to audibly and physically coming from the oil pan.

After a few minutes, it goes away, when the engine warms up. Probably 3 minutes.

The pan has a few little dings in it, but it always has.

I will be replacing oil and filter today, so I can check the oil for metal.

So far I researched and found so many different reasons why this is happening, for so many different engines.

I'd like some input as to where to go next. I'm assuming I should pull the pan? I don't know what to look for if my oil is clean.

Edit: I did drive yesterday, after the knock went away, not smart but I did. No loss in power, oil pressure was normal and steady.

My feels are all rustled.

Might not be a bad idea to see what the bottom end looks like, for the time it takes there could be something wrong that might be easy to correct

A mix of good, bad and good news.

First off, the oil pan dents I thought were dents, are not dents.

Secondly, I only have the car in the air about 6 inches. I went underneath on the passenger side after changing oil. Oil looks great, no shavings. Started car back up with new oil and filter, no change. Crept a little further towards the driver's side, noticed a difference in volume. Remembered reading something about a flex plate or something, pushed on something (cover like) between the bellhousing and the oil pan, noise went away.

What I must have felt in the pan was transferred vibration from this thing. YAY... o wait.

A/T pan bolts are covered in weepings, as is the pan, there is a lot of red A/T all around the trans, just hasn't started dripping yet.

Good: Engine is great.
Bad: Trans is going fux0red
Good: Manual time!

nice that you figured out the rattle/vibration... and it wasn't more serious.

yeah trans gasket, pretty typical with age. might as well buy a filter and gasket kit and freshen it up.

So the inspection cover is loose?

Well it's not engine serious at least. I'm going to try to get a picture of this area to see what it is. I know absolutely nothing about transmissions and they scare me to death because of their voodoo. It seems from listening to other's experiences, you can't get anything done at an auto mechanic for less than $1000 when the word "transmission" is involved.

I have a video of this noise, I'm hesitant to upload it based on how unbelievably horrendous this noise is. Something seems to be contacting something else at a high rate of speed, but when I press on this plate, the noise completely vanishes.

If thats it, it'd be nice. But it strikes me that something is making contact. What doesn't make sense, is when I put pressure on it, it goes away.
