a heads up if you use a credit card

keep dibs on your cards if you use them online. one of mine got jacked and someone tried to use it on threadless.com. it was declined as it was an unusual purchase and way out of our normal transaction area. we nipped this morning and foiled the plot but its that time of year fellas.
here's how they operate for a different fraud method too.
they send text messages claiming to be your card company announcing you have a possible fraud. if you respond or call the number you are actually talking to the thieves where they get all your info. even just responding to the text or email gives the green light for any transaction they are attempting. "smishing" is whats called i think.
i've dealt with ID theft before and its a pain in the arse.
this is probably old news but just a heads up.....

I'm not sure if it will help, but I've been using paypal exclusively for a while and it's been absolutely flawless.
I'm now a valued customer and will allow me to delay payments until the product is delivered. They pay for me and 21 days later the money comes out.

This is why when you get this type of call, you ask for their name, the company they represent, and a call back number.
THEN you call the ACTUAL COMPANY.
I offended the guy who called me once about a purchase I made, but he understood why I wasn't just going to start talking.

yes most (if not all) credit card companies have fraud protection... so it's not a big deal, but still bullshit that you don't want to deal with...

Wow that has a red flag written all over it... I never call any given number when it comes to things like that... as Pat said I always call the main company direct... They will re-direct me if it's legit.

A lot of this is commons sense. Just don't give your information to anyone! Don't respond to weird texts or emails. It's that easy. I have been online since the AOL days in '94 so I have "experience" in spotting this crap. It's the same crap each time, I have no idea how anyone could fall for it anymore!
My dumb ass friend responded to some text about winning a Target gift card recently now his cell phone is blowing up with spam / third party calls. I asked him, "Did you even sign up to win a Target gift card?" His answer? No. Dumb ass.

You mean there really isn't a Nigerian prince who desperately needs my help transferring his fortune out of the country?

Sometimes, they attack a business and fetch the data (email & credit card), and then send out an email asking to verify your info.
No, no...always check web page given....always call your credit card company or business you have account with.

I went to California on a school trip once, went to use my debit card and it was declined, they thought it was stolen.
It was after hours so my friend paid for me, I called it in the next day and had it fixed so I could pay them back. The restaurant wanted to call the cops. lol
Later on we visited the police station anyways because we found a cell phone ringing in the bushes.
Use cash, don't use debit, use credit only if you have to, thats how I roll now.
