switching guages?

bear with me.....
i've found a 96 base with 2XX,000 miles that the guy says is in good shape mechanically. i havent seen it in person yet and the only reason i am interested in it is the fact that it is red. he is supposed to be sending some pics but it seems decent cosmetically. neither here no there.....
it has the base instrument panel with only 3 guages.
what kind of issues would there be with swapping the guages from my 94? it has all 6 guages, which i prefer but the mileage would be off.

I believe it has to be a cluster from a 96 in order to work properly

odometer roll swaps aren't that bad. Send both clusters to me, i'll swap them for you! lol

I'd be worried about the timing chain more than the dash.

3x00 Timing chains don't have that many issues I don't know why people keep mentioning that...
And a 94 cluster will NOT work on a 96 unless you rewire the tach wire as pictured in my OBDI.5/OBDII conversion thread. 96 is fed from the ECU with a specific signal, 95 and older is fed from the ICM with a standard tach signal that would work with any aftermarket tachometer.

Tensioner would be the main problem. Best to change both.

2.0,2.2,2.3,2.4,Eco 2.2,Eco 2.4 and 2.many engines on the mind.
Better to change the chain at 100k than to wait until it fails and lose a good engine.
No more posts for me on cold medicine.
