I have a '90 base model w/ an automatic transmission and the black plastic strip in the middle of the console plate around the shifter is breaking. I've managed to stick it together w/ packing tape so that I don't have this gaping hole down into the bottom of the console.
Has anyone else had this happen? I found the part number (1408-7150) and thought about treking down to my local Chevy dealer and trying to order the part. Has anyone tried this route? Will buying the plate (I need to find it in navy) come with the black runner?
Thanks.

Is that the entire cosole that you're going to order? You might try to search some junkyards and see if you could find a match, or maybe just the trip piece you need. It'd probably be a lot cheaper than getting a new one through a dealer.

It's not the whole console, just the plate with the shifter. And actually, I don't need the plate, what I need is the black plastic/rubber that fills in the center of the plate that the shifter runs up and down in.

A junkyard should have plently of those for dirt cheap. I would not try to change just that piece, change out for a better conditioned one if possible.

I think you could pop it off from another center plate. If not find a good condition plate. A corsica with the same transmision (3 speed) will work fine.

You can also grab one of the smooth ones from a newer Beretta and fit it in there. I put one from my '91 GT in my '89 GT and it looked a LOT better than the 87-90 ribbed ones.
