CV Joint/Axle Emergency =(!

So I've been told by three shops my passenger side CV Joint is going out. All of them say it's more cost effective to just replace the entire axle. It runs about the same cost. The cheapest I've been quoted is $202 plus tax to do one entire axle.
Right now when I make tight turns the steering wheel clicks when it's turned all the way. It doesn't click too often. I've been driving it easier by not accelerating on turns; just rolling into them. I figure less torque to the wheels will save me. I have another two weeks until I get a paycheck to fix this, folks.
Do you think I'll be able to survive until then?

With what you are doing that would give you the best chance to make it.

Let me tell you this way.
I took my Z26 I used to own to Bfest '05. The Right CV shaft had a little binding to it but nothing major. I drove it from Jackson, MI to Columbus, OH for 4 days. While I was down there I Auto X'ed the side streets, HARD. To the extent that I actually scared myself a few times. Then drove the car back to Jackson and put roughly another 200 miles on the car before it was fixed.
So I think that as long as you don't rape the car it will be fine.
Also, as a fellow mechanic myself. Mechanic shops generaly make something sound worse than it really is to a customer to generate business.

If it's just clicking it's not that big of a deal. I might worry about it if it gets worse.
I thought my car is the only one that has CV joints break anyways? (soon to be no more!)

I forgot um.. it pops when I go over rough bumps (which can be avoided?) I was told this is when no grease is between the joints--and the next step is breaking the cv. It's been doing that since I got the car.. which has been 3 weeks?

You have just one more week right? I think it will be ok and I hope that it will be. Are you sure it's not the control arm poping over the bumps?

It can't be the control arm. I just got new bushings on each side which before were non-existent. The passenger control arm was egging out, but it was mounted back in the proper position.

Ok, just checking. Did you do the ball joints also?

I did not. One of three mechanics said my ball joints is "starting" to show "signs" of play.

Yea, I had to repalce them on my old 90 and now have to do them again on the 95. They can make noise also. How soon will you get the new CV's? Get the best ones you can buy, ask Cliff about the cheap ones(or just look at his sig photo). Do the ball joints as soon as you get the cash. A guy up the street had his wheel fall off because it got too bad on one side. Not trying to put more fear into you, just letting you know.

I'm just going to do one side? Only one of the CV's is bad.. it's all I can afford.

Sounds good man, one thing at a time and one day it will be good as new.

Don't think it's a CV Joint.. I just put 2,500 miles on it. It hasn't blown up yet...
Mechanics say
-ball joints
-cv joints
-strut mounts

What little i know about a cv failure, i had a vibration while driving, went away, came back, went away. Came back with destruction, it was the drivers side, and it poped right out of the tranny. a fellow retta owner changed his b4 the pop out, and had the same vibrations...
NAPA, after the core has been returned is less then 100.00...
the guy swaped it himself at bfest NE. took a couple of hours..

I have one also, I had one CV changed at a shop and did the other with a guy from work. I still had a pop, so I took it to the same shop that did the drivers side. The guy at the shop said "I know what it is". I get the bill and they changed the one out that I did! I was so mad, but what are you going to do about? My pop was the control arm bushings. It would only pop when the car sat for some time and I backed up, turning the wheel.
