Starting issue

First of all ive got a 1990 indy 3.1. When i started her up for work today she was sputtering a little, then when i had gotten farther down the road the sputtering had gotten worse so i pulled into the neighbors driveway and she died and wouldnt start again. I went down to the gas station and bought more gas and it still wouldnt start. I relieved pressure in the fuel rail to see if it was getting gas but i got nothing but air multiple times. I think it may be a clogged fuel filter but im not 100%.

Turn the key ON and listen for the fuel pump to prime then see if you get pressure.
Fuel filters tend to settle after a bit and will flow again for a few minutes at least.
Hopefully it's not the pump.

Yep, thinking fuel pump here too. You can manually bypass and run the pump from a jumper lead located by the driver's side shock tower. Just needs a jumper to the battery and it should kick the pump on if I recall correctly. No oil pressure can also shut the pump down I think.

I re-read that. Sounds more like the pump has gone bad. You tried the fuel rail valve check multiple times and got nothing but air, so I take that to mean you would hear air hiss out, but no fuel at all? That to me means that the pump may indeed be running, but its not pumping the liquid fuel any more and instead is pumping air? I don't know, can these pumps fail that way anyone?

The valve you are checking is like a tire valve with a cap on it right?

Its the pump. Ive been messing with it for a couple of hours. Now when i turn the key i dont get the whine from the fuel pump and there is no fuel pressure (the air is not even hissing out of the rail anymore)

Sounds correct. That will be fun to change, but its not that bad. Just get the ass in the air, drop the tank, pull the pump, put in a new one, put the tank back up. You might need new tank straps, depending. Hit RockAuto.com, they may actually have everything you need and they are reasonable, but if you are in a hurry then hit a local place.

check to make sure the relay is clicking first... as others said find the pump test tail and get it 12v to see if the pump works, if so then the relay is bad. Also check the fuse if you haven't yet.

Rockauto doesn't have the fuel tank straps either...
