I'm putting in KYB GR-2 struts with Eibach springs. Wondering if anyone has compared the KYB and Monroe strut mounts.

I had KYB's and they were nice and smooth right out of the box( the mounts that is). I did buy another brand just to test , but can't remember what they were.

From what I have read in the posts on both boards the KYB ones fall apart quick.

Why is it that the shocks are good but the mounts are bad?

Poor aftermarket construction/design. The KYB shocks/struts are about on part with factory parts... roughly the same ride characteristics, but slightly stiffer.

Go with the Monroe's.

I personally like MOOG or AC Delco the best, but I definitely wouldn't recommend the KYB mounts.  The shocks/struts are great, I've got over 125k on them and they're still good, the mounts were clunking within 20k.

I have tried ac delco, Monroe, & KYB mounts.
Monroe won out of the bunch in my opinion.  The delco's only lost because the Monroe's were least expensive and did the job for just as long (still going) .  The KYB brand are just plain out just trash.  I still need to change out those KYB's in the other car and they are less than a year old.

Thanks for all the info. Looks like Monroe is the way to go!

StrutMate I believe is what the Monroes are called. At least mine were.

the ebay ad says it's not for the FE3 suspension which you have but the Gabriel web site doesn't say anything about it. I would try your local parts store and double check with them.

But what's really different between the "sports" suspension and stock? Just the Fe3 parts are a bit more stiff, better handing? Or do they change actual mounting surfaces?
