i couldnt get any answers on the jbody or clubcav forums so i figured you guys could help a former beretta owner out.

my 2005 cav gives off a strong gas smell when its cold in the mornings and it comes through the vents. my dad says it's most likely a line and i have read the fuel pressure regulator could be going bad. i pulled the hose from the regulator and there isnt any leak (that i can tell anyway).

any of you guys have any experience with a problem like this or can give me an idea of where to start?

Turn the key on and let the pump prime when cold... Look for any leaks in the bay such as around the injector o-rings or any lines. If your getting a smell through the vents it should be obvious enough of a leak. Bad regulator will just suck fuel into the engine via the vac line and make it run stupid rich.

any reason why it would do it only when its cold? brittle lines or expansion due to temps?

there has to be a leak of fuel coming from somewhere, prime the fuel system and stick your head under the engine hood smell around. i have a feeling its somewhere on the top end as its being sucked in by your hvac system

Expansion yes will cause that to go away when warm.
