Yet Another New Toy :)

Well since the Beretta sold, I really don't get a chance to post that often. I recently sold my '03 SV1000 and got back into a cruiser. I bought a 2010 HD 48 about 2 weeks ago with 4,800 miles on it. It came from the factory with forward controls so its right up my alley since I don't have to fork out money for them. The only thing the previous owners added was the rear rack and a HD quick detach windshield.

The 48 the day I bought it.

The first thing I had to do was add some V&H Short Shots. I removed the baffles so I'm running straight pipes at the moment. I eventually need to get a tuner for it.

My buddy's Nightster and the 48

Next I added a passenger pillion seat and passenger pegs for my girlfriend.

The rear seat reminds me of the time a several years ago when I rented an Anniverrsary-Edition V-Rod out in PA for a couple of days. My Significant Other was so sore after a full day's ride, my brother offered to swap bikes (Honda Shadow 1100) halfway back to upstate NY from Hershey. I said, "That pad can't be that bad." I was used to long rides back then, mostly astride my old Honda V-4 750 (yes, I said "V"-4, and I meant it) Sabre, a big, fairingless, up-right sporty couch, and I jumped on the back of the V-Rod. I jumped right back off and said "Ouch!" Yeah, we swapped bikes... That is one tough-looking bike you have there though. I'm more into the sport/standard/touring type two-wheeled machines myself, and that Suzuki looks pretty good to me, but it is pretty cool that you got what you wanted. Congrats.

I started out with a sport bike as my first bike. It was an '05 ZZR 600 which was identical to the older ZX6. I've always been a sport bike fan, but I wanted something that I wasn't cramped on. I sold that and bought an '08 Nightster to cruise around on. I then missed the sport bike feeling and bought the SV1000. After owning that for a year, I missed the cruiser feel so I bought this. I'm a fan of both styles, but I can see me sticking with a cruiser now.

The seat isn't very comfortable at all, I've sat on it once and wasn't that impressed with it. My girlfriend rides with me when we go on short trips around town or short rides with friends. Someday I want to upgrade to an HD Street Glide.

We have two of the older ZX-6s (ram-air "E" models that the ZZR was based on) in the family (not mine, but I rode the first one back from the Great Lakes to get it home, we trailered the other one home a couple of years later from the same area). One is modded with stainless racing exhaust and dark smoke windscreen, the bike is so loud, I could literally hear the bike over half a mile away. The other one is bone-stock, has 300 miles on it with the break-in sticker still on the instruments, and is sitting in storage, waiting for the first bike to get worn out. It might be a long wait though, aside from the typical second-gear issue, the machine is pretty solid.

That was one of the reasons I bought my ZX-11, it was a big-brother version of the 600, looked very similar, though a heck of a lot faster (0-60 in 2.8 seconds, 1/4 mile in 10.55 seconds at over 130 MPH, measured top speed of 176 MPH, and 130+ HP at the wheel on 601 pounds curb-weight, all stock). I personally had the beast to a little over a buck-and-a-half, and it just felt at home with the rest of the world blurring. But it also had a civilized side, pretty quiet and was comfortable lean-steering through hairpins just cruising and taking in the sights through the mountains. I miss it. :pardon:
