3100 Engine Mount

Just looking for some quick tips when removing the upper engine mount on a '94 3100 ( the mount above the serp belt.)
I was in the process of changing my water and power steering pump.  I set a jack under the oil pan and jacked it up untill the car started to lift.  As I was removing the last bolt (18mm) of the mount (3 bolts on the top part, 2 15mm and 1 18mm) the engine started to fall and pull on the mount fairly aggressively.  It felt like if I would have removed the bolt all the way, the engine would have been on the ground.

Any tips on taking the mount off without bending the other mounts or loseing the engine?

it will rotate back.  You shouldnt jack it up that much and should put a piece of wood on top of the jack to distribute the wieght

So far, no matter what I put under the engine, it seems like it will fall out of the car if I pull off the top mount.  Anyone know what would happen if that mount was pulled off without anything under.  Kind of like if the mount would break.  Is there still enough holding the engine in that it would not let it fall out?

I use a piece of wood (2x4 or 2x6) on the jack to place it under the oil pan.  Doesn't move much unless I jack it up too much or not enough.  Granted, it'll move SOME no matter what.  You'd want to support the engine before you take the mount off, or you'll have to spend more time later when you have to re-install the mount.  If you really want to do it the right way, rent/buy an engine hanger.
