Oil question

Ok.. I am going to ask here since i tired on the other forum and got crap. Please no crap here just a straight answer. And If you answered on the other forum. You do not need to repeat it here, I know what you said and will keep that in mind... just dont repost it here!

Also I do not care to hear about how changing from semi synthetic to regular oil is bad. That is not the question and dont care to hear about it! ;)

The question is... I  have read and have been told that  using synthetic oil can show a slight gain in hp/ 1.4 mile times. Is that true??  Now I am not saying huge gains.. im saying slight...

So then in theory going from a synthetic blend to a regular blend would slow you down??

Please no crap.. Im trying to get straight educated answers with out having to weed thru stupid  posts that are not clearly answering my question...

(sorry for being a turd about this.. hahaha)

I have seen many of the companies claim to free up horsepower but I have never seen any type of tests or proof.  I personally run mobil1 in my car. I would rather spend a little extra to help protect the engine a little better and not have to fix the motor.  I switched from conventional to synthetic about a year ago(5,000 miles) with no problems.

Well there is synthetic, and there's synthetic.

The everyday brands like Castrol, Penzoil, Valvoline, Mobil 1, etc are actually mineral based.

The "premium" brands like Royal Purple, Amsoil, etc. are polymer based, and as such cost more.

There have been test (in fact HorsepowerTV did one a couple weeks ago using Royal Purple) that do show small HP gains.

And that does make sense, but it's still pretty small.

If you are buying it for a HP gain, it's likely a waste of money.

If you are buying it for increased protection and decreased engine wear, it's worth the price.

FWIW I use Royal Purple 5W30 in the 3500 and the Quad.

But then I don't drive them all that much so it only gets changed in the Spring after they come out of storage.

Ok I will post the senerio but I dont want to hear negative crap!

I was using semi synthetic because we took the car in to get the oiled changed to a shop and thats what they put in. we did this last oil change our self and was testing the waters and used regular oil with an oil additive to see ifthat would help with the engein kncok (which at the time we were not sure what it was, but now have  since foind out)

With the semi synthetic ad the same air conditions I was running 16.8's and 16.9's... since the change I am running 17.1's and 17.2's...  We have not changed A THING... or changed the way i launch or race...

That is why I am asking if it could of slowed me down a tad.

Some one said something about with that oil additive plus the regular oil could be sticking to the crank and parts more now which could cause it to be harder to turn and such... Im not oil expert and can not explain it the way he did...

but it is possible that could be a factor in my slow down?

NO!

I have just arrived home from my first Points Race of the season, AND have been away for a week. (I'm UBER tired and need a beer!)

Started up the 3500 for the first time in 6 months.

Ran 14.56 @ 96.13 on last years Royal Purple, (and I won $150.00 plus 5 valuable points.) New stuff goes in this week.

Jene, I love ya to death but you are worring about stuff you shouldn't!.

Just have fun!

Ok.. this is annoying...  I do have fun. If I didnt I wouldnt be doing what I am doing!

Finding the issue is part of my fun, which gets taken away by  certain comments. I like to work on cars and like to learn... to me.. thats fun..  worrying.. im not.. curious I am.

I am very sorry my curious questions bother every one.. I wont post again...

(btw.. if my car has slowed down.. i would like to figure out what it is because if it is something wrong... i think i should probably fix it... or not and just let it break all the way i guess?? no common sense says fix it...)

I had another GOOD question.. but I guess I wont inconvience you guys with it...

Omg, Jene, get over your bitching already. It's old after seeing you whine in two different forums now because you didn't like the answer. Tough! It's going to be the same no matter where you ask. YOUR OIL IS NOT GOING TO SLOW YOU DOWN OR MAKE YOU FASTER. Period. FFS.....
If you don't like our answers why ask us? Talk to your guru racing buddies...
Oh, and btw ,from what you said on the other board, your car slowed down all of 4/10ths of a second. You admitted your 60 foot times have dropped as well. It sounds more like your reaction time than the car.

Lol... dont start.. was this post needed??? no.. i was trying to get an educated answer.. no is fine.. but then explain to me how the oil works and the difference between them and why the answer would be no. not just "NO"  thats what these forums are for is for help and to get educated on things.. and if you cant fully answer my question as to why... then dont post and dont get an attitude with me.. plain and simple..

I dont care who my friends are... maybe if they were around i would of asked them... but no at the time i asked.. they were at home probably in bed... so I asked here...

And as fot my rt time... HAHAHAHAHAHA... THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY OVER ALL TIME.....

That is the funniest thing...

rt time is your reaction time to the lights... the actual 1/4 mile time does not start untill you tires  hit the beam or pass the beam... it doesnt matter.. I could of had a .500 rt time and still ran a 17.2.. besides if that was accounted for in your actual 1/4 mile times then i still would be in the 17.2's... several perfect light pins and an average of a .050 and better  light i would say is pretty good.. lol

those are 2 different factors and are not combined in anyway unless you are bracket racing and even then your rt time has nothing to do with your over all 1/4 mile time...

QUOTEThere have been test (in fact HorsepowerTV did one a couple weeks ago using Royal Purple) that do show small HP gains.

I tend to believe Eric since he knows his stuff... hense why i asked then if you go backwards from synthetic to regular oil does it slow you down or show a decrease in hp...

No im not asking that question again.. im just showing you why i was curious..lol

The only thing I know about in terms of engine oil is that the weight of the oil can sometimes can have an effect.  Get the idea of synthetic and conventional out of your head because they are still both the same.  I'm sure you have heard the the heavier you go with the weight of your oil, the harder your car can be on gas mileage (even though its not very much at all).  My Beretta 3.1 calls for 5W-30 like the rest of them, but due to the famous "low oil pressure problem" at idle, I run 10W40.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't the same thing go for acceleration etc.?  Not so much in a race motor, but in a stock motor, I can see how heavy oil can have an effect on acceleration and stuff.
