Rich smelly and farty - part 2 saga continues

Post by themixer »

Car - 1991 Beretta 5 speed swapped
WOT Tech chip to run 3100 injectors

Purchased new injectors had one stick open and returned them. Contacted WOT tech to burn a chip to run a set of flow matched 3100 injectors.

Installed chip in car and the injectors turned it on and was presented with a lumpy idle. I get a check engine light plugged in my tech one and got 2 codes.

Mind you I have never had a code in this car that ever made any sense before.

45 - Rich Exhaust
43 - ESC Failure

What do I possibly have to change based off these codes? From what I am reading on the internet it could be ICM, looking at a chevy truck forum. I was unaware that there even was a light that would come on based off that.

43 is the knock sensor. with it set, the PCM removes a set amount of timing in all conditions, which will cause drivability issues, including a crap idle. it could even be the cause of your DTC45.

since you have a tech1, this will certainly be helpful.

Put your other chip back in... 3.1 and 3100 injectors are so close to the same it should run fine with the OEM chip... See if that corrects the issue.

The car did run with the stock chip, but continues to have a lumpy idle however no check engine light.

Has anyone else has similar issues to this? I am going to run though the testing of this knock sensor ASAP

Knock sensor tested within spec

Circuit wire coming from ECU gives a constant 5 V nothing in the way of wiggling changes

From what the manual is saying I need to replace The ECU which has been done

With the knock sensor disconnected I've noticed that the car runs really really poorly. Is it possible that my knock sensor is sending some sort of signal to the computer causing it to run poorly?

knock sensor should not affect running with it disconnected, I've run my 3400 like that a fair share of times due to timing chain issues...

Well this is interesting news I must still have some sort of injector problem with this set

I wish we has a place in my area that could test them

Pull the rail and just turn the key on to prime the pump, see if they just spray fuel... They could be stuck open.

I have personally put 3100 injectors into a 3.1 to replace a bad 3.1 injector and the vehicle started and ran with them on the stock chip with no issues.

16.7 vs 17.5ish lb/hr.

it's about a 5% difference, so while not optimal, i'm sure there are people running injectors that have skewed over time to worse than that.

I have doubts after testing all the wiring back to the ECU that there is an electrical issue, but if there is the entire car is being burned and sent to the junkyard.
