Alternator rebuild?

I have a new alternator that I'm going to put on this weekend. I would like to keep the old one(I know that it's OE). Is there a rebuild kit out there? That would give me something to do when it gets cold. The ID sticker is about to fall off, but I can get the # if needed.

Can't remember what year your car is atm Money, but yeah, alternator rebuild kits can usually be found and prove a MUCH cheaper route to go and you KNOW it's done right. Just remember the 2 toothpick trick to get the brushes back in.

I know, all I talk about is the 90GT. The new one is a 95. Are there good and bad rebuild kits? It's been a long time, so I may need some tips on how to do this(shop class was many years ago). Yea, from what I hear most alt's are made way down south these days. Who knows how long the new one will last. The regulator is out on the old one, but with 140K on it I want to start fresh.

I forget which rebuild kits to stay away from since it has been a while for a such job (Everything is test & replace nowadays) , but I would highly suggest calling up or going to a few of your local starter/alt rebuild shops and having a long talk with them.  Then from there it's all about shopping for the right deal on a complete kit.
Goodluck!  Not hard at all to rebuild and you'll find yourself wanting another project to fix!

Thanks 1988GTU, I think it will be fun. Thanks for the link Cliff, I took a look at the site and need to find out which alt I have. Tag# is 10463411 321-1030 23EO 105A. Hey, it also has on it remanufactured for AC Delco(guess it's not OE). Still should be better then the new one.

Cool, thanks Cliff. From what I hear the 130's are not too good. Is that true?

They tend to fail from getting hot it seems.  The small case isn't very good in that respect.  That's why you go with the Iceberg setup.

Do you have one of these attached to the back of your alt?

It's made for the 3100 Beretta/Corsica cars.  Let me know if you dont.

Iceberg Cliff? I'm not sure I need that much power. No 1988GTU, it's not on my car. I'll have to think about that, I'm not too big on the need to cut the firewall weatherstrip.

You don't have to get a high-output version to get the revised ICEBERG rear housing though..
