whats up hopefully yall can help me.
i have a 1994 pontiac grand am gt 3100 4spd auto
w/ 168k miles on her.

i did a tuneup ehh a while back...well two tune ups.
used regular delco's and they went bad...found out i'm supposed to use platium.

well i did'nt have enough money for the platium so i bought rapid fires.

now here's what happens

when you take off around 10-20mph the engine bogs.
a few times it bogged so bad that it sound like the engine was gonna die out.
and inorder for me to get  her moving i had to play with the gas till i reached abouve 20mph.

that was solved by replaceing the pcm.
now the one i have is from a 95 grand am with the sport package....but i don't feel comfortable with it unless it's a gt....and i seen one at the j/y.

now whats happens when the engine is cold she misfires and bogs.
once she's in closed loop she.....
it's kinda hard to describe.
i'm assuming it's bogging, because when she reaches high rpms (4500-6200rpms) i can hear like a popping from my cold air intake.
But also followed by a rich exhaust smell.

i removed two of the front sparkplugs and they had some crap on  them(assuming it's carbon build-up)

but once you drive her for awhile she does'nt do it.

so i'm thinking the icm is bad
i've just today replaced the coilpack and the wires.

do yall have any suggestions?
thanks

does it sound like it is running on four cylinders? if it does try this take the plug wire off each cylinder and see if it makes a difference if it does that cylinder is firing and performing as it should  however if it does not make a difference on how the engine runs then trace your wire to Coils and ICM that would be the suspect more than likely.

no it's as if the engine is flooding it.
but once she warms up it goes away, but when you floor it it seems to like...bog at higher rpms.

but once the temp reaches 210*F it does'nt matter.
as long as it's hot under the hood i could hit 6200rpms all i want and she not "bogg".....

Did your plugs have grey ash deposits or were they black?

okay (sighs) here's the update.

replaced icm, coils,wires.

i removed the cam sensor harness while the car was running...no ses light.
figured eh she's still in open loop mode.

i read in the chiltons manual that when the cam sensor is bad the pcm will shift to a calculated program but when you shut off the car and try to restart it...you won't be able to.

okay i drove her for about a good hour...no ses light.
i stopped at my first stop shut her off and started her up....and she started?

i left it out for a while.

each and evrytime she started...only differences is theres a slight hesitation between 600-1000 rpms on take off.

flooring it it did'nt do the bogging, or stumble.

hooked up my scanner came up with two codes cam sensor circuit.

no egr code.

connected the cam sensr and egr harness back.

drove started to floor her and she acted up.
i thought damn so it is the cam sensor.

so to be sure i removed the harness again.
and she still did it.

but after the icm replacement here's the thing she only does it around 5,000-5500rpms.

so i hooked the scanner up.
the coolant sensor is fine.

what i find suspicious(msp?) right now is the tps or o2 sensor.

when the engine is cold the volts flunctuate between .40v-.50v quickly.

when warmed the volts read out .51v at idle.
at wot the volts read 4.34v

the o2 sensor readings changes quickly but where the readings are makes you wonder.

on the highway the readings are above 500mV.
but when you let the gas go or when you sometimes floor it the readings are under 500mV.

oh yea also when the bogging happens i smell the richness.
other than that...nothing.

okay now i'm starting to get worried.
in drive the rpms sometimes get low (500rpms)and it bouces up and down a little.

I have had that problem do you have a cold air intake?  i do and i did not relocate the  AIt sensor play with the wires going to it. i noticed when my connector was going bad the idle would bounce around almost to the point of dying.

yea...but i left it where it is.
if the connector was bad the ses light whould come on.
the pcm relies on that more than the o2 sensor but umm do yall think i'm showing symptoms of a clogged cat??
