Hi guys, i have a problem with the gaspedal of my 90 GTZ Quad4 Ho since few month.... Now i want to repair this ****
Sometimes the gaspedal goes hard and its REALLY nerving! Sometimes hard and on other days its "ok" but still nerved. My mechanic guy take a look of it and he put oil to the cable from the gaspedal to the throttle body. After oiling its ok and the gaspedal goes easy but after 1 or 2 days and driving around and some accelerate action (put the pedal completly down) its again hard... It really sucks
I also noticed when i shift from the 2nd gear into the 3rd that the motor revs a little up (when i drive).. maybe 100rpm or so.. (during shifting). Could be the throttle body that problem?
My mechanic guy think it could be the cruising control that make the gaspedal so hard, but i think its the throttle body....
Everyone know how i can fix this or what i need to do that my gaspedal goes easy again and stays more that 2 days ?^^
My 90 gt has much more miles on it and the gaspedal goes easy as hell ^^
So i want to fix that... please help me
Thanks
Greeting,
Michael

could be a tb problem, when was the last time you cleaned your throttle body or did a tune up on the car itself?
i dont know much about the quad 4 so im no help, ive never had one to personally work on so.... but i know enought about the 3.1 but thats not going to help you.

I only ask that my mechanic guy about the gaspedal... he put oil on the cable and on the throttle body .. he dont know why the gaspedal goes hard. Last time he put oil on it was 3 days ago . I think we need to get the tb out and need to clean it....
In the engine bay its all clean so i dont think the cable or something is dirty.
And i just wondered why are the cable is a little loosely, i mean its not too strong but could be this also a problem?
I looked at the gt and there is the cable pretty strong.
Im not a car mechanic so i just need a little help

It's likely the throttle body binding up.
Take it off (easy to do) and clean it up with some carb cleaner, especially the throttle (butterfly) shaft.
That should do it.
And just make sure the cable isn't sticking or binding anywhere.
have fun.

this is not true, my 95 has a much harder gas pedal than the 96 and that was with the same TB installed on both... I have no clue what causes my problem but it makes driving the 96 interesting since I'm so used to needing a lot of throttle force when its not necessary on that car.

It really just sounds like a faulty throttle cable in both your cases to me. GL.

Also check that cable distribution box that's bolted to the drivers side strut tower.

Maybe, lol! But your cable doesn't have to be frayed or some other dangerous situation to be faulty. It could just be catching inside the insulation somewhere. Also , I would do as Cliff suggests and check the cable box. GL.

The 90 GTZ's throttle cable is a shitty design.... It goes out of the firewall to a "junction box" that goes to the TB and to the cruise module. My GTZ is the same way, some days it's good others it's not so hot.
Here's what you should do...... take the tube from the TB off and clean in there. While you are in there make sure the torx screws that are on the plate are tight(DO NOT overtighten them..... just snug them up), then WD40/grease the external linkage and the cables in the "junction box", then go inside the car take the lower panel off the dash(the black one) push the gas pedal down throw some grease on the cable going into the firewall and WD 40 it. That should do the trick. It's a PITA to do that all the time but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

Thank you guys and many thanks sousa for the helpfull description
Before i take a look again at the TB and i moved it myself and i must to say it works easily. Tomorrow i do this what you said, sousa, so i hope it works and then i can to give gas without problems
One thing i still want to say... when i go fast from the gaspedal i hear a "clack" from the box.. the junction box. What does this mean? Bad or not?

That clack you hear could be the throttle blade getting hung up inside the TB because of those screws being loose.

I had the same thing on my 93. And my TB was clean as a whistle. I never really checked into it that much, it kinda just stopped doing it one day. It's friggin weird.
