Hey everybody,
I just wondered if anyone can clarify a few things for me. I've gotten a lot of general information, but I can't picture this in my head.
Here's what I would like to know:
1) What years did the rear quarter window in beretta's change installation styles?
2) What is the best way to remove the rear quarter window for the different years?
3) What does the rear quarter window look like when it is out of the car on a 1995 Beretta (or whatever other years it is the same on)?
4)For good measure, how should it look for the other years?
Here is one window that I have:
But I am told it needs to be one with the moulding on the car. This moulding? (see picture)
Here is where I am at right now. The rear window is busted out. I am going to have a glass shop do the work, but I'm just wondering what needs to be done.
I'm hoping to head over to the junkyard next friday or so, I want to make sure they get me the pieces I need and not just the window like I have right now. Unless you think I can attach the molding I have right now to the window I have.. The glass shop couldn't do anything for me but order a new window, but a member here thinks I can install that window into my current moulding.
I just want to get my facts straight!
Thanks everybody,
mark

To "3)" There all windows are the same from 88-96. So you can use the window from every year.
So "4)" is done now, because of "3)" ^^

Hmm, I was told by other members and the glass place that the rear windows in the later years were attached to the outer moulding and must be installed that way.
I mean I know the windows are the same shapes and all.. Just not sure in installation methods. The glass place was either convinced they couldn't do it or wanted me to pay for the $360 new rear window assembly.

I know it goes on the same in my old 90GT and the 94 Z26.

I had mine replaced by the glass shop and mine had the window and the molding as one piece and I also have a 95. The guy used some sort of fancy heated saws-all looking thing to cut the silicone that holds the window on, cleaned up the rest when it was out, then siliconed the new one in. Like I said though, on mine the trim and glass were one piece. Hope that helps.

I would think they could take the trim off your car and re-attach it to your replacement quarter window. Try a different glass shop. I'm thinking the guys you talked to would rather just see you buy a new window from them for profits sake.

IIRC, the molding is glued to the glass. I'm not understanding why we are worried about it. Take the car to the glass shop to have a new window installed, if they can reuse your old molding then they will. Doing it yourself is just asking for problems. Most glass shops won't even touch "used" windows, too much of a liability. Spend the money and do right the first time.
Just my $.02

It looks like that window you have was cut out incorrectly and no longer has the mounting holes for the trim. I think i have a spare drivers side window, I might be able to get a pic of it so you can see what it's supposed to look like.

That would be cool if you could get me a picture. I'll just get the new window I have found otherwise.
The glass place was more than happy to put the windows in I brought them charging only labor. It just seemed like they didn't think the window I had would work at all.
I'll have to make sure the junkers gets me the window and trim out of the car.

Wow A lot of mis-informed info floating around here!!
I have both style windows in different cars.  I don't know exactly what year they changed over to the one piece design but I know it was probably around 91 or so.  (My old 95 z and my bro's 93 GTZ have the one piece as well as a 91 or 92 parts car we had) (my GTU and every other (about 7) of the pre 91's I have owned had the older "two" piece design.)
The window you have gotten (used one) appears to be an older style (has a SEPERATE outer window "trim" molding).  This trim molding is held in using basically a couple push-in's.  (or the window it is a newer style and the trim was cut off wrong either way it will not work) ÂÂÂ
The window you will need is a newer style window with the molding formed into the outer edge. ÂÂÂ
I just put "new"/different window edge moldings around the 1/4 glass windows on the GTU as I was putting it back together last weekend.  I threw my old ones out, but I could still dig them out and give them to you if you wanted to go that route.  HOWEVER, I would just get a new/different window from Gibsons. (they will cut it out (I would just call for a price)) The window trim on the newer ones is a softer material (obviously as it needs to bend slightly when you are cutting it out)  where as the edge molding on the older style is a stiff plastic. ÂÂÂ
If you need help or have anymore questions about this just give me a call 715-252-6598.  I want to see you get this thing back on the road!!!
Good luck ÂÂÂ
*edit-I know gibsons only charges 60 for a windshield w/the cost of removal (I think that is the price, I know it was only like a 10 dollar removal charge) I was also there last weekend and they had a few new style. (I know because I was looking for the belt moldings..lol)

Looking at those pictures again. (and they arent very clear) But I do not see any of the trim mounting holes. So it looks like they just cut the molding off when they removed the window..

Thanks Nick, you're the man.  Those were all the answers I wanted.  I can get a new window from the junkyard by me, and they'll charge $40 to pull it.  I just have to make sure the molding comes with it. ÂÂÂ
If I knew how to get the window out myself they would only charge $25.
If you could help me that would be awesome, otherwise I will just have them pull it out for me. ÂÂÂ
Finally I can stop being confused by this!
Thanks everyone for your help .

Hey I could/can help you. I will be coming home next the weekend of the 19th. I will tell you right now though that these are kinda a pain in arse to pull without destroying that molding. (I pulled one of out my parts cars and sold to a guy that had a z26 I kinda wanted to buy) Personally I would just spend the extra 15 bones and have them screw it up.

Yeah, I'm just going to spend the money and have them do it. And dang, on the 19th I'll be down in Milwaukee at a WI GM-Tuners meet.
