I have looked and looked, but havent found anything.  Anyone know of polyurethane front motor mounts for the 3.1?  I am not looking forward to changing the damn thing and would like to do it once, not multiple times.

Depends on which "front mount" you are talking about.  The upper or lower?

The upper utilizes a poly insert that wraps around the factory rubber mount.  This mount is not as bad as it looks.  It's only six bolts and one nut.  13mm and 15mm.

The lower dogbone style mount is made from MRZ.  Which is all billet aluminum and has poly bushings on each side.

I'm talking about the upper, but mine in no way looks like yours.  Mine is a '90 model, so it is a funky looking mount mounted about half way down the radiator (if you know what I'm talking about).  It is a little more involved to change than the newer Berettas

Not hard at all to do. ÂÂÂ Just use a wood block under the pan with a jack to brace the engine. ÂÂÂ Then you'll need to undo the two 13mm's facing the radiator and the one (I think its a 13 also) 13mm under the mount attaching it to the frame rail. ÂÂÂ I used a ratcheting swivel wrench for the two up top facing the radiator and used a long extension and socket combo underneath for the one. ÂÂÂ Then you'll need to take out the bolts facing the passenger side.  IIRC those are 15mm... could be 13's also.
If your old mount is really blown out, you'll need to fiddle with the jack to get the right angle back again to put in the new mount. ÂÂÂ

DO NOT USE ANCHOR brand mounts unless you intend to fill them or turn them into solid mount.

Thanks for the tip, but whats wrong with Anchor?  Thats what I was planning on buying (they worked fine in my S10).  Do they just blow back out or something?

They SUCK.  That should be enough to help you decide.

I dont know how involved the process is, but if I buy the new anchor mount, what kind of material do I need to fill the mount into make it more solid?  I was told that the easiest way is to get windshield silcone (3M Windo-Weld) and fill the mount in with that.  What is the best material to use?  Also is there any trick to filling them in good?

You can use poly shore 94 (I thinks thats it... [do a search for that] ) or window weld...... but I have not had great results with it.  

What I ended up using was some construction grade polyurethane from home depot/lowes .  It was very watery so I had to use duct tape to seal off the one side of the mount.  Then I applied layers after layers of the poly so it would dry properly.  Then after letting it set for a day, I put it in the over for about 2 hours at like 150 degrees and letting it cool...  it was set to go.  You MIGHT want to still let it dry on its own for a day or two after before installing.  I trimmed the over hanging stuff off for a cleaner look.  

If my mount ever fails, I am welding a piece of steel across it and making it solid.  

I was reading that alot of people are having good results with the Windo-Weld, and since it is the most easily available thing, I'm gonna try it.  Since I'm buying the brand new mount anyway, it should reinforce it enough to last a long time.

This hardened mount isn't going to cause bad vibration for me is it??

In addition, does anyone know how prone the rear mount is to failing? I haven't taken a look at it, but my trans mount and my dogbone are fine.  I'm gonna start by replacing the front mount (being that it is the one thats banging around) and go from there.

I dont know how anal you are about your car, but it MIGHT have some more direct feeling.  Nothing that'll rattle your teeth fillings out, but enough to let you know it's working.
It would not be a bad idea to go and replace that rear one right now too.  I am 99% sure it's flopping around too.

I didn't know you were dealing with the older mounts.  I saw 3.1 and assumed it was 92+ mounts.  But you got taken care of so its all good.




And a side note.  Anchor brand truly do suck!  When I replaced my bad dog bone mount with a brand new anchor mount.  The new mount had TONS MORE slop in it than my old one.  So I made my own mount.

That front mount is by far the one that fails the most.  You can get the urethane casting compound to fill it from McMaster Carr.

I got the motor mount put in today.  I filled the mount with Windo-Weld and it seemed to do the trick.  The car rides like a dream now.  It has a little vibration at idle because of the stiffness, but it is a heck of a lot better now.  Now all I have to do is see if the Windo-Weld holds up in the long run.
