Hey all!!!
Summer months are coming and with frequent trips on the calendar to sunny and HOT Las Vegas, NV, i want to get a/c working in my car again. Again i have an 89 GT which used the now banned R-12 refrigerant. I want to convert mine over to the now-used 134 stuff. Have any of you done this??? Is my compressor compatible with the 134 refrigerant??? Is there anything, special parts, that i need to complete this???

Yes, your compressor is compatible. No you don't really need any special tools, it depends on how EPA friendly you are, lol. Just get a conversion kit from Wal-mart or any parts house. It will include the oil and conversion parts you need. You MAY want to consider having it done just so your system can be "vacuumed" of any old refrigerant and air blockage. But it IS doable at home. I've done several and they work fine. GL.

I have heard good and bad about those kits. Not necessarily about the kits themselves, but the oil and dessicant that was used in an r-12 system is not compatible with the 134 oil and refrigerant. What i plan on doing is doing it "right"...taking everything out, flushing what i can't get out as best i can, new lines, new drier with the correct dessicant, and oil. Having someone vacuum the system and i would recharge it myself.
Maybe i'll try one of those kits first because i have nothing to lose...it's already gone!!!

I've always used the 134a stuff on my car and never had any problems. Just needs to be filled up every summer which isn't bad. I saw a can last sumer of stuff that was made to be used in place of R-12. They called it R-12 something or other.
