There is a jumper wire in the engine compartment for the fuel pump. Yes most of the time no spark is the crank sensor. It is on the back of the block inline with the crank.

Oops sorry. The jumper is near the drivers side strut tower. That will by-pass everything and "hot" wire the pump.

A bad crank sensor will also prevent fuel injectors from firing on the older MPFI engines, like yours, so you will have a whole lot of nothing. A bad ICM (Ignition Control Module) could also be at fault, or (very unlikely) a bad ECM (computer). The engine could be mechanically bad too, from sitting too long. Why was it parked?

A full tank of fresh fuel will also help, if the shop didn't flush out all the old stuff. I assume they replaced the fuel strainer (inside the tank with the pump) AND the fuel filter (underneath the car, near the tank)? What about running some injector-cleaner through it too? I have a friend who swears by Lucas and I've only ever heard good stuff about Seafoam... I've only ever seen results from the BG44K injector cleaner (pricey), but I haven't tried either of those others yet... Good luck, glad she's running!

That FP is a little low, for a brand new pump. Still should run okay at that, but I would be concerned about the FPR (Regulator, little round part with a vacuum-line attached to it that is installed on the fuel rails). Watch your fuel pressure while revving the engine a bit -every time you crack the throttle open, that pressure should rise a bit too. Also, if you can reach the vacuum line to it, disconnect that while the engine is running -the pressure should rise a bit again, and look for any fuel leaks where the vacuum line goes... Did Money Pit already cover this part with you, or was that someone else recently?

Next thing is to do an idle re-learn. Search this site for it -the procedure will come up if you look around a bit despite the overall suckiness of the search function. That will help how your car runs at idle alot.

Those blackened plugs are from your engine running very rich, or with very badly atomized fuel (dirty injectors, poor fuel pressure, water contamination in the fuel, and an internally leaking FPR are all potential causes of this -anything sound familiar here? :D ). New plugs would help, especially once you've gotten everything else figured out on the fuel-side.

Keep us updated!

Fuel flows from the pump to the fuel-rails where it gets to the injectors, and the Schrader test-port. Excess fuel continues to the FPR, which restricts the returning fuel, thus causing a build-up of pressure. As the fuel pressure reaches the designated level, the FPR's internal diaphragm is pushed open to allow fuel to return to the tank. Engine vacuum also helps pull the diaphragm open, so when you have a high vacuum (low manifold pressure, such as at idle), the fuel pressure is lower. Opening the throttle or removing the vacuum line increases the air pressure against the diaphragm and causes the fuel pressure to rise.

Yes, the FPR is under the intake. It is at the end of the fuel rails, just before the return line. I think you can sort of get to it without removing the upper plenum of the intake manifold. If you actually have to replace it though, plan on pulling the upper plenum and the fuel rails/injectors. That would be a good time to replace the injector O-rings too.

Yeah, MoneyPit, it looks like we are talking to ourselves nowadays! Jon, is there anything the rest of us can do to help? Is there a way that some of us non-Mods can be sent batches of unapproved posts to help sift through? I guess that we probably cannot help, but consider the offer open if there is a way we can. Would it help to make a few of us 'Temporary Moderators'? I have no idea how the politics of all that works here on this site, but I would be glad to assist if it would help the community and the site...

I have no power over the forum other than what a mod can do... The major issue here is there is only ONE board admin so when things happen like that and overwhelm it and he's not around then well it's completely out of our hands and we can't fix anything.

Why not have more board admins ? Ive been a admin before and wouldn't mind helping out...

I'd volunteer as an admin, if you think I got The Right Stuff.

Even if temporarily, I wouldn't mind taking a more active role in the site. I usually spend a large portion of my spare time on the internet and truck/car forums.
