Help, this can't be the part that takes my beloved GTZ off the road. I'm looking for the part of the ignition, it's a small die cast piece that is in the column, GM P/N 26012697.
Tough to describe, but it has small rack like serrations and a heavy metal rod attached.  Any help appreciated, even if I have to buy the entire column, I just need the part.
1990 GTZ, tilt wheel.

No, it's been discontinued. The parts guy recognized it right away, did a inventory search and found four, but when he called all the dealers told him they didn't have it anymore. I'm searching salvage yards too, but it's only a $70.00 part, at a yard I'll probably buy the entire column. They made so many of these cars I'm really surprised it's discontinued. I'm hoping someone here has a stash of them squirreled away. This is the actual part description: 26012697   Steering column - Steering column assembly - Rack package - Manual trans
Manual trans - 1987-90 w/tilt wheel 1987 - 1990

Yea, but can't you pick up a whole column for LESS than $70 at the bone yard? Then you would have other extra parts too?

Not sure what the column price will be at a junk yard, I'm looking into that tomorrow. I was hoping someone here had it as spares. Not a lot of time tomorrow either, but hoping I can find something.

From the description it sounds like the ignition actuator......

I think Chevrolet calls it a Rack Assembly something or other. Anyhow, thanks all for your help, but 1988GTU had the part. Great guy to deal with, and now the car is back on the road.

Bringing this topic back from the dead because I have the same problem. Mine broke at the rack and the car cannot be used until it is fixed.
You can see where I glued it together at the break. I am going to get a friend to attempt an aluminum weld using 4043 and his bas ass Miller, BUT I would prefer a parallel path and try to acquire another one. Searching JY's is not an option right now.

I am willing to pay handsomely for this part if need be. Here are photos of 26012697....

Paul, if you could guide me to where this part is I'm sure I have it on my parts car...

It's inside the steering column, the teeth rest right above where the ignition cylinder goes (the gear on the end of the ignition cylinder pushes this piece down, which is attached to the ignition switch via a rod).

You pretty much have to take the entire steering column apart to get to this piece. I know because I had to replace it on the Indy I sold.

Yes it is the hardest part to get to in the steering column. You must remove the key lock cylinder so it can slide out AND remove the key release lever/column lock bolt cover on the back side AND remove the contact switch farther down the column to remove the rod on the other end of the rack. Worst part that can break.
Can't start or stop the car without it unless it is jury rigged.

He did get it off; I helped him over the phone last night. Stupid tilt pivot pins... dumbest design ever.
