A friend of mine has an L67 supercharged Regal with a 4T65E HD, and he's looking to upgrade the torque converter.
He's looking at a stall around 2300, and we had an idea to maybe use a stock 700R4 TC... Any suggestions?

DON'T try to use a RWD converter on a FWD.
Here are the GM codes for the various stall speeds.
ALL FWD converters start with an F
The second letter indicates the stall speed.
A 2795 RPM
B 2560
C 2385
D 2095
E 1860
F 1720
G 1630
H 1514
J 2061
K 2760
L 1897
M 1525
N 2535
Y 1420
Z 2363
Some of these are for very specific applications and may be hard to find. Others are rather common.
I used an "FA" in my 3500 swap and was very pleased with it in a street/strip application with no adverse effects on the highway.
NOTE! That was on a 3t40 application. On an "E" application there may be other considerations. Jon or someone else will know.

I have one that might work for a 65 trans that's a 2850 stall speed. It flashes to 3000. Drove with mild mannered characteristics thru the city and on the highway, but launched like an incredible hulk on amphetamines.

This is excellent information!
I shared the link to this post with him, and if anybody else wants to weigh in it'll be more than helpful as well!

I race circle track and the best TC i ever found came out of a 1995 chevy cavalier 4 cylinder there stall speed is around 2500-2600, FYI if you are taking a 4t60-e out you may have to change cv axles and transmission mount

I have an L36 with minor mods and a 2800 stall and 3.69:1 gears as well as a L67 with a stock 1850 or so stall. Both cars will obliterate the tires on the stock torque thrust wheels and the L67 car will obliterate the 280 tread wear tires on 17X8" wheels through 20ish MPH on the 3.25" pulley and 45ish on the 3.0 pulley. The L36 car will spin those tires on the 17" wheels for 20 to 50' depending on the road. I guess what I'm saying is with an L67 how does a TC help since you will just spin?

I know this is a bump of an old thread, but I do have some Dacco part numbers for some higher stall converters!
B21FZ9 - 2363 stall, 240 lb. damper springs, paper clutch.
B21FZPB - 2363 stall, carbon clutch.
B21FK1 - 2760 stall, paper clutch.
B21FKEB - 2760 stall, carbon clutch.
