Thoughts on Niagara Falls Bfest 2016

Post by csumbler »

Just a thought for now. It was my proposal for Niagara Falls Ontario some years ago. Since then I have had dozens of requests about going back, appeared to have been very popular for those that came. However what I think was the major issue was with Homeland Security flip flopping on cross border ID requirements at the time. No end of complaints regarding the cost of passports especially those with kids. Which may or may not have been required and no one appeared to listen when tried to tell them they would not go into effect until after the event . A passing thought, what about Niagara Falls New York? Tourism in the Falls NY, sucks the view etc is best from the Canadian side. I could get something together. For the US side, those wishing to cross for the better stuff would have a free time option. Just thinking of a proposal that attempts to fix the issues that came up with the CDN side. There's nothing like the very popular Clifton Hill and things are not as concentrated like they are in Ontario, but considerably more spread out. Certainly no walking between events and restaurants.
Would things get overly complicated to vote for NF Ont or NF NY. But that would just open the can of worms if its back in ON I'm not getting a passport! End up splitting the vote and be neither? OR, what about a secondary vote. Should NF win first, have a second run off vote as to which side? Or is that getting way to complicated? Have the time.

I split this off to a separate topic since it could generate lengthy discussion and I don't want to put all of that in the post I have regarding planning for 2016 proposals.

Niagara Falls NY is a dump, and getting this thing into Canada again?

Better chance of seeing a pig fly!

I couldn't agree with you more. Yes NF NY is a dump. and back in Ontario only brings up all the issues with the border. That's exactly why my original post to test the waters so to speak before I but any effort into it. Thinking about the Jet Boat as a group thing running out of Lewiston, Go Carts in Wheatfield, stuff like that. About the only things the main tourist area of NF NY going for it these days is the Casino and the stuff on Goat Island.

You do not need a passport to get into Canada unless you are flying in. There is however an ID card (kinda like a drivers license?) that people would need to get to drive across the border. I'm told its a bit easier and faster to get.

I have the passport card, it's not hard to get and did come quickly but it's not free. It's also not overly expensive either but if some can barely make it to bfest I doubt they can afford that additional cost.

Shane, its not just an enhanced license its a passport card, completely separate piece of identification.... It's only usable when traveling via car, not valid for air travel.

I understand that I don't fly much pretty much wherever I go I like to drive to see as much as possible along the way. I'm just saying I.would get enhanced license to make it across the border

Apparently your one of only 4 states that supply a EDL so I would refrain from taking about it because people don't do research as much as others so they will get lost and confused and not understand that you need a passport book or card to cross the border unless you live in one of these 4 states where you can get a EDL to do land border crossings only, Washington State, Vermont, Michigan, and New York.

Talking about the EDL will just confuse people and spread miss information just as it did when there was a bunch of talk about needing a passport in 2008 which was not true, it greatly hurt attendance that year because people don't listen.

I would absolutely LOVE to go to NF for BFest! I missed out on the prior trip and am still mad at my Ex...
I say propose it. You'll never know if anyone wants to go unless you propose it. I put in the Denver proposal for three or four years before it was voted as the winner and I have put in my St. Louis proposal just as many times. There's nothing wrong with putting together a great proposal and having it on file to submit every year.
